I worked at HI-Tec Building Services full-time (More than a year)
It's a paycheck... but don't expect much more than that. If you're working at a minimum wage site your work will be very easy. If you're working at a school or other facility you can expect to work very hard for every bit of your $9/hr.
Absolutely no chance of pay increases from starting pay. Experience and loyalty count for nothing, as upper management feels a monkey could do your job with no experience.
Most management / supervisory positions are hired from outside the company. If you are hired in to be a custodian somewhere, that's where you will stay. Perhaps that's a plus for some people, but upward mobility is nearly non-existent here.
No benefits for hourly employees.
Advice to Management
It's really important to promote from within your company. This fosters loyalty to benefit you ultimately. It's also good for management to uphold moral integrity. Do not let money blind your eyes to more important matters. You serve the kids in those schools, and should not be afraid to stand up to union bullying that interferes with that service.
