The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is a defined benefit (DB) pension plan that has been helping build the foundation for a financially secure retirement for Ontario’s healthcare workers.

The reason HOOPP has been the leading defined benefit pension plan provider in the Ontario healthcare community is simple: the Plan is tailored to the healthcare sector and offers its members retirement income for life.

HOOPP members make regular contributions over the length of their career. When they retire, they receive a monthly income based on how much they earned and how many years they contributed. They will not outlive their pension.

At HOOPP, our driving purpose is to provide healthcare workers with a financially secure retirement. We manage all aspects of the HOOPP pension plan for healthcare workers; we not only administer the plan but we also invest member and employer contributions into the HOOPP Fund to ensure that pensions can be paid now and into the future.

To manage HOOPP assets and liabilities to minimize funding volatility in order to ensure price and benefit stability for members and employers.

Defined Benefit Advocacy
To maintain the HOOPP DB promise for members in a changing environment by engaging government and stakeholders.

In 2015, we raised more than $600,000 for the United Way Toronto & York Region. In 2016, our HOOPP Racers team has had the highest per person fundraising for the United Way Rat Race, for a second consecutive year.

    Good pay and benefits.
    Generous vacation.
    Sense of pride in working for a top pension plan
    CEO is down to earth and makes an effort to familiarize himself with the employees that make up the organization.


    Not much room for growth. Often look externally to fill positions rather than growing from within.

    Seems like everyone is a manager. Lots of people planning and strategizing but no one to do the actual work.

    I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at HOOPP (Toronto, ON (Canada)).


    Long recruitment process of 2 months with limited communication from HR. One has to ask again and again for updates. The preference from HOOPP is to include a broad group of employees into the interview process. You end up going through multiple interviews which can create the impression that you are on the shortlist, which isn't necessarily the case. Being invited back for interview after interview does not equate into a short list. While I admire HOOPP's desire to have a cast of thousands in the hiring decision, it requires applicants to invest too much time and HOOPP offers little feedback or updates to compensate.
    Pleasant group of people but my impression was that they are confused about how to manage a fast and efficient recruitment process.
