Hair Cuttery would not be the company we are today without our deeply rooted culture of caring for our associates, our guests and the communities we serve. We are committed to making a positive impact through our signature Share-A-Haircut program, partnerships with local and national causes and support of our family of associates.
Through our annual Share a Haircut campaign, Hair Cuttery donates thousands of free haircuts to underprivileged families. To date, the Share a Haircut program has reached more than 925,000 children with haircut certification donations valued at $12 million.
The Ratner family has a long philanthropic history, helping fund organizations such as: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Camps for Kids and The American Red Cross. They gladly support wounded warriors, the arts, education and at-risk youth. Grateful for their successes, they recognize the importance of giving back and encouraging all of their associates to get involved with causes dear to their hearts.
We believe that doing the right thing is the goodness we put out into the world. Through salon cut-a-thons, our associates raise funds to help a neighbor or a guest in need. Our School Donation Program sets aside 20% of a day’s proceeds to local schools. We also love to sponsor local sports teams, youth groups, Boys and Girls Clubs and children’s theaters.
We care for our associates like they are family and we support them through both good and bad times. The HOPE Fund’s mission is to offer emergency financial assistance to associates experiencing temporary hardship and unexpected situations such as natural disasters, home destruction or a death in the family. It’s a great feeling to know that your team will always have your back.
HC is committed to getting involved with the communities it serves. Our work with respected, national organizations is impacting a variety of causes. Additionally, we connect with local and regional groups whose values closely aligned with ours. We’ve supported events such as: Girls on the Run, The Neptune Festival, The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and Krausey’s Koats, just to name a few.
Our salon professionals are very important to us, so we want them to have a direct line of communication with our leadership and a voice in our company! Our dedicated Salon Ambassador makes regular visits to our salons, serving as a sounding board for our associates. The Salon Ambassador provides an open forum to discuss ideas, ask questions and provide us with valuable insights to be better every day.
I have been working at Hair Cuttery part-time (More than a year)
Lots of walk-ins, flexible schedule, great atmosphere/vibe to work in - at least at my salon and the ones I've visited in my area :) They help you set goals so you feel like your hard work is rewarded and is meaningful. They train their leadership to encourage employees and lead them to success. There are lots of career opportunities beyond working behind the chair. I think that spices it up a bit :) Like any job, you get out of it what you put into it. If you bring a negative grouchy-butt attitude into work with you everyday, you probably won't like your job or anyone else who works there. If you come in with a positive attitude, eager to learn, willing to work as part of a team, and want to make your clients look and feel awesome - you're gonna be requested and become super successful!
I'm new so I haven't hit any bumps in the road so far. But I'm also the kind of person who looks at challenges as opportunities to learn and improve myself so, I probably won't be looking for the cons. If I had to list one, it would be the pay/commission rate. But that is really up to me to improve by getting new guests in my chair (i.e. business cards to everyone I meet), improving my skills, making each guest feel amazing so they will request me every time, and making sure they have to right products when they leave so they can keep up their look at home.
Advice to Management
Keep up the great work! My salon leader is awesome! She's encouraging and supportive and always asks if there is anything she can do to help me or improve my work experience. Thank you also for offering so many business and technical classes at no cost to employees!! I've signed up for several and I'm looking forward to learning all I can and making my salon shine!
