I worked at Half The Sky Foundation full-time (More than 5 years)
Everyone knows they're doing meaningful work. Even when the days are long and hard I always felt valued and I think most of my colleagues do too.
This is a global organization but it is small so employees are scattered across time zones. It is sometimes hard to feel connected with each other or with all of the amazing work that we're doing so far away.
Advice to Management
I wish there was a better way for staff to maintain regular contact wit each other. I don't know what to suggest that hasn't been tried.
I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Half The Sky Foundation (Berkeley, CA) in May 2015.
First Interview with direct manager and another senior manager. The interview was at their Berkeley office and it was interview day - candidates before and after me. They were friendly but not very good at asking questions - I found myself leading the process a bit. I left not very sure what they were looking for. Apparently they weren't sure either, as I didn't get an offer, and they ended up reposting the job. I am not sure if it was eventually filled or not. Nice people, but not sure how much experience they have in their functional areas.
