President and CEO

Paul has more than 25 years of experience in high technology. He joined Halogen Software in January 2000, became President in August 2000 and assumed the CEO role in November 2006. Under Paul’s guidance, Halogen has emerged as a leader in the employee performance and talent management market. The company has achieved consistent revenue growth and has built a strong global customer base.

In recognition of his leadership, accomplishments and community building efforts Paul was named CEO of the Year by the Best Ottawa Business Awards in 2013 and received a "Top Forty under 40" award from Ottawa Business Journal in 2001. Prior to joining Halogen, Paul was founder and President of NeoDyne Consulting, a custom software development firm that was named one of Canada's 100 Fastest Growing Companies by Profit Magazine and named an "Up and Comer" by The Globe and Mail's Report on Business. In 1997, NeoDyne Consulting was acquired by Compaq Canada.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Computer Science, with Distinction, from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.

Vice President, Client Services

Marc has more than 20 years experience in software development and professional services, and has been with Halogen Software, and its predecessor Manta Corporation, for the past 16 years.

As Vice President of Client Services, Marc oversees the customer support, implementation consulting, training and technical services teams. Marc's organization drives the company's commitment to outstanding professional services and support for all Halogen customers. His team's success has been recognized many times over by leading industry analysts — most recently in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Marc holds an Honors Bachelor of Science in Information Management Systems from the University of Ottawa.

Vice President, Human Resources

Dominique has over 15 years experience in the talent management industry and has held progressively more responsible senior HR roles both in Europe and in North America. Dominique has extensive industry experience, having worked in the retail, manufacturing, financial services, consulting and professional services sectors.

The industry diversity in Dominique's career has led to extensive practical experience in organizational change, aggressive growth initiatives, talent and performance management, and international HR management.

Prior to joining Halogen, Dominique was most recently a regional vice president at Right Management, a global talent management consulting firm. Before that, she held senior HR roles with AMEC, MBNA Canada and MBNA Europe, JCB Transmissions, Safeway, and Marks and Spencer, as well as established her own HR consulting business.

Dominique holds an M.A. Honours degree from St. Andrews University in Scotland, as well as the Institute of Personnel and Development (IPD) certification from the United Kingdom.

Chief Financial Officer

Pete joined Halogen Software as Chief Financial Officer in September 2006. As Chief Financial Officer, Pete is directly responsible for the Company’s finance and administration, legal, information technology, and security, risk and compliance functions.

Prior to joining Halogen, Pete was a Managing Partner at Axis Capital Corporation, investing in early stage technology companies. He was actively involved in the strategic direction of many of the firm's portfolio companies, serving as a director of several of them.

In 2001, Pete was recognized for his leadership and contributions as a recipient of the Ottawa Business Journal's "Top Forty under 40" award. Prior to founding Axis, Pete was a Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte LLP, servicing its high technology clients. Pete is currently a member of the Leadership Council of the Canadian Advanced Technology Association (CATA) and previously served on a number of boards and committees of non-profit organizations.

Pete is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mount Allison University.

Vice President, Product Management

As Vice President of Product Management for Halogen, Dawn oversees the company's market-driven product direction.

Having joined the company in 2005, Dawn has been instrumental in helping Halogen become the first and only talent management vendor to deliver a complete, organically built talent management suite spanning performance management, job descriptions, recruiting, 360 feedback, compensation, learning and succession planning.

Under Dawn's leadership Halogen has also become a market leader across multiple industries, offering 7 vertical solutions to address the unique needs of organizations from healthcare through to hospitality. With more than 25 years of software development and product management experience, Dawn held previous management positions with software companies like NSB Group and STS Systems.

Dawn earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Management Information Systems with Great Distinction from McGill University.

Vice President, Marketing & Business Development

With more than 20 years in senior marketing, sales and business development positions at both start-up and established high-tech companies, Donna brings extensive experience and a results-oriented approach to Halogen Software. Donna oversees all facets of marketing and business development for the company.

Prior to joining Halogen, Donna was Vice President of Business Development at BitFlash, where she defined market strategy and was instrumental in securing strategic partnership agreements with leading companies worldwide including Sharp, Vodafone, Texas Instruments, and IBM. Her contributions at QNX Software (Harmon Industries) led to the successful repositioning of the company as an industry leader.

Donna holds a Bachelor of Commerce, High Honors, from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.

Vice President, Sales

Phil joined Halogen Software in November 2013 as Vice President of Sales. With more than 30 years of experience managing diverse channels, geographies, verticals and product lines, Phil has a proven track record in maximizing market opportunities, growing annual recurring revenue and driving international expansion.

Voted one of the industry’s top 20 executives by VAR Business, Phil has held senior leadership positions at some of the world’s most recognizable enterprise software providers, including VMware/Integrien, IBM/FileNet, Oracle, Informix and Alta Vista. Prior to joining Halogen, Phil was CEO of Factonomy, an international software company specializing in business continuity and disaster recovery.

Phil holds a BA in Mathematics from Wagner College.

    I have been working at Halogen Software full-time (Less than a year)


    Coming from a very toxic previous work environment, it's been a breath of fresh air to be at Halogen. The company is based in Canada but I work out of the San Jose, CA office. Despite being so far away and being managed remotely, I continue to find both my Canadian and local colleagues extremely helpful and friendly, with a strong commitment to team collaboration. I genuinely like the people that I work with. Also, the leadership tries to really walk the walk in terms of implementing talent management best practices internally within the company. So not only are we helping our clients try to implement talent management best practices but we can use ourselves as an example. I quite admire that, especially coming from other organizations where HR is clearly broken--and I was in the HR department! Also, Halogen does believe in recognizing and appreciating their employees, so you do work hard but the company is very supportive of you taking time off to play. The biweekly Pizza Fridays, team building outings and charity events are a great morale booster. There is also a great emphasis on onboarding their employees right, so I can definitely say that they are not shy about making an investment in their employees. This includes spending several weeks at the Ottawa headquarters for training when I first started so that I could actually learn my job. Each new hire in client services also gets a buddy, as did I, so it was nice that I immediately had a safety net. Also, the medical, dental and vision benefits are awesome! Halogen covers 100% of the benefits, so that means employees pay zero in the way of premiums. Monthly parking is also covered!


    The company is transitioning from a start-up size to a mid-sized company, so many of the processes and procedures are just now getting worked out. This can cause a lot of confusion and frustration in the way of mixed messages and inconsistencies around our actual job duties, requirements and procedures. Halogen tries really hard to keep and develop long-time employees who are now performing poorly in their current roles. I appreciate the loyalty to these employees but at the same time, there are those of us who have to suffer the consequences of working with those poor performers. Once you're fully ramped up and can do your job, the pace can be relentless, especially during "high season." It's easy to get overworked if you aren't disciplined about sticking to your boundaries. The San Jose office has some serious issues with the soft phone and VPN servers. It can be maddening because we spend an inordinate amount of time dealing with tech issues just to get our jobs done.

    Advice to Management

    Get alignment across all the leadership with regards to the value and importance of client services. Take off the blinders with regards to long-time employees who are poor performers and consider either moving them to roles better suited to their skills or moving them out.

    I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Halogen Software (Ottawa, ON (Canada)) in May 2015.


    Following a phone interview was a second interview that was actually an unstructured conversation where we delved into the sales process, markets, future plans for growth, etc. The sales manager was very knowledgeable and the interview itself was very enjoyable. I was surprised at both the lack of technical questions and how I was not asked at all about my educational background and experience. I did try, however, to insert the information about my own background that I thought was the most relevant into the 'conversation.'
