I worked at Harborview Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)
Coworkers, staff, scheduling, and comraderie. This is a fantastic place to work and allows you to really get down in the trenches. The staff is amazing and have some of the finest medical minds in Seattle.
Management can be poor. Staffing is always an issue and could be managed much better. The pay is not as much as other area hospitals but the benefits are excellent.
Advice to Management
My advice to the management would be to staff better on most units. Stop worrying so much about patient satisfaction, satisfied workers will create satisfied patients.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Harborview Medical Center.
Phone interview followed by panel interview with straightforward, behavioral questions based on previous work experience. The process took a long time because HR was very slow and they did a background check. The hiring manager did a good job of keeping me up to date and helping to manage expectations about the pace of HR finishing their work. It took a really long time between the offer and the official offer letter, which was a little frustrating.
quick, phone, not much room for negotiation as the wages are based on a union negotiated contract.
