    Negative Outlook

I worked at Heart English School part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Very quick and easy application process
    - No micromanaging
    - Fast way to get a visa for Japan
    - The low pay motivated me to pick up a skill where I am paid far higher

    Cons

    - Unpaid work days
    - Low pay
    - No paid sick days
    - Training is unpaid
    - and much much more

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees like humans.

I heard all the horror stories before applying and was still continually astounded at how the company treated me compared to my previous one. Morale is low amongst ALTs because they all feel worthless.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Heart English School in September 2017.

    Interview

I interviewed with Kent; the whole interview was easy going. (mostly was him talking and giving information about the job). As everyone mentioned on here, he did ask me to do a demo lesson about emotions (sad, happy, angry, etc...). I sang him a song and let me tell you, SINGING HELPS! I got the job. My advice is to be friendly, smiley, and most importantly, show him that you are flexible. I asked him what are some important traits to have in order to be successful at this job and he said being flexible is very important.

    Interview Questions

    • Do you have any tattoo or piercing ? (This question is so important since he asked me multiple times during the interview)   Answer Question
    • Do you have any teaching experience or any experience in dealing with little kids?   Answer Question
    • What if a teacher make a grammar mistake during class, what would you do?   Answer Question
    • A short interview in Japanese with a native person. They just want to test your Japanese level, don't sweat it if you don't know any.   Answer Question
