I have been working at Heartland Community College full-time

    Pros

Friendly and open atmosphere. Receptive to criticism from employees. Fairly tight knit employee groups, as a result you are familiar with people in areas all over the college.

    Cons

Pay is not always competitive and the ability to move up is restricted. There is not a structure for upward movement in current position, generally need a title change to get a pay bump for experience, education, etc.

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Heartland Community College.

    Interview

Saw an ad online. Applied via traditional mail since HCC doesn't accept applications online. A month later I got a call to schedule an interview. Went in and talked to the Dean, she asked about my previous experiences as an educator, you know , the usual: "What do you like about teaching?" "tell me about about yourself" Soon after, I was working there.

    Interview Questions

    • I didn't have any difficult questions. They were all what you would typically expect.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

no negotiation. it is what it is. But once you get hired you can work with the higher ups to find a working schedule that you like.
