Hilti North America – Why Work For Us?

We are a company inspired to make a difference in our customers’ businesses. Our leading-edge tools, technologies, software and services power the global construction industry, including some of the world’s most ambitious feats of engineering. To deliver these innovative solutions to our customers, we’re looking for dedicated, high-performing people to join our team.

In North America we have more than 3,300 team members based in headquarters locations, R&D and Hilti Store locations, and more importantly, located strategically throughout the country, close to our customers.

Globally, we employ more than 27,000 people in more than 120 countries. From our strong and prosperous position, we’re looking to reinforce our market leadership in the next few years. To do this, we’re seeking high-performing people with the excellence and drive to take Hilti forward.

Hilti offers products, systems and solutions for every application on the jobsite. Whether our customers work in construction, civil engineering, energy, mechanical, electrical, steel and metal, or interior finishing, Hilti is here to help them build a better future.

Hilti was founded in 1941, and evolved from a small family company to the trusted global business we are today.

Our aim is to build a better future. By this we mean helping our customers to build faster, safer and with more daring, while all the time being mindful of the legacy we leave behind. We want to be proud of the mark we make on the world.

To ensure the integrity of our products, we run our own production plants and cutting-edge research and development centers right across the world and in North America. Our head office is in Schaan in the Principality of Liechtenstein, where Martin Hilti established the company 77 years ago.

The group is headquartered in Schaan, Liechtenstein. But our reach extends worldwide. While the Hilti team includes nearly 27,000 members in more than 120 countries, we share a common culture built on a foundation of teamwork, integrity, courage and commitment.

Hilti is far more than a manufacturer of tools and equipment. For the people we serve every day, we’re partners. No other company offers as much in the way of service, education, training, technical data and support. In fact, more than two-thirds of our team members work directly with customers on a daily basis. That means about 200,000 customer contacts day in and day out. Those real-world interactions inspire us to develop better tools, better systems—and better solutions.

We’re committed to building value for stakeholders both inside and outside the organization. That means we consider the interests of customers, suppliers, team members—and society as a whole—in everything we do. We take social and ecological responsibility seriously, because we believe it sets a precedent for long-term success.

Hilti was founded in 1941 as a family-owned company. And we still are. The Martin Hilti Family Trust holds all shares and participation certificates of the Hilti Corporation. That means Martin Hilti’s vision for the company is protected today and preserved for tomorrow.

The Hilti corporate culture is founded on four key ideas—teamwork, integrity, courage and commitment—along with self-responsibility, respect for others and tolerance. We think globally. We act locally. It’s our way of building a better future.

We have an environment of open communication, idea sharing and best practices. We create organizational excellence by assembling diverse talents. We work together to build a better company for our stakeholders, and we foster an atmosphere of respect, openness, fun and cooperation.

We treat others the way we want to be treated. We do what we say we will do, and we’re accountable for our actions. We apply truth and honesty in dealing ethically with all people.

We know that positive and negative experiences are sources of learning and innovation. We continually break out of the circle of habits by taking risks. We embrace the freedom of choice with the philosophy of “love it, leave it or change it.”

We are passionate about achieving excellence. We have the courage to take risks, and we empower others to do the same. We celebrate success and recognize achievement. We ensure we are vital to our customers.

People who join Hilti share a certain mindset. They’re driven and hard-working, and they excel at giving their best for our customers. In return, they enjoy an incredibly varied and dynamic career. Many of our people have been with us for 20 or 30 years - testament to how much we value and reward their contribution.

What makes Hilti such a unique place to work is our high-performing culture. It’s based on a combination of personal performance, teamwork and support. We’re challenging but nurturing, daring but trusting.

Show us what you’re made of and we’ll offer you opportunities to move around the business – to work abroad, experience different job functions and tackle different markets. It’s a great way to find the right match for your ambitions and achieve the exciting career you’re after.

Our business success is driven by distinction. Our innovations enable our customers to build faster, safer and with more daring.

We defy convention. We’ll expect you to challenge the way things are done, speak up with new ideas and venture from the norm. That’s why you’ll have regular access to senior management who will listen to your input.

Ours is a workplace for an exceptional kind of person. One where you’ll need the passion and energy to constantly improve things. The commitment to always finish the job. The confidence to take risks in pursuit of greater achievements.

But, far from stepping out on your own, you’ll always work in excellent company – with people from diverse backgrounds who are inspired to make a difference to our customers’ businesses every day.

While you’re driven to be successful, it’s in our interest too. So we’ll invest in your training and give our genuine attention to the progression of your career. This includes regular one-to-one coaching. It’s time intensive, but we believe it’s crucial. It’s how we recognize your achievements and help you continue to perform – for us, for our customers and for your own ambition.

Impress us with your skills and we’ll give you leadership opportunities as soon as you’re ready. It speaks volumes that 80% of our management positions are filled with internal candidates.

While the majority of our team members work around the US and Canada, near their customers and projects, we are also proud of our corporate offices in Texas.

Our North American Headquarters in Plano, and our Western Hemisphere R&D Center in Irving, are both part of the Dallas metropolitan area. It's a great place to live, learn and work for our team members and their families. Have a closer look.

If you'd like more information on why so many Hilti team members "Say Yes to Dallas", here's a website from the Dallas Regional Chamber about Dallas-area communities, parks, outdoor activities, culture and a lot more. All the details are here.

I have been working at Hilti North America full-time (Less than a year)

I have worked for several multi national's before. They are big for a reason, they're not there to make friends they exist to make profit. Hilti is different! You notice that the moment you walk through the door, or see literally anyone of their red shirts on job site. That smile my friend, tells you that they are happy and treated with respect. The level of care and thought they put into every aspect of the products they develop is phenomenal. I will wholeheartedly endorse Hilti to any of my friends.

I'm sure they have some, but I have not found them yet.

    Advice to Management

Avi, you and your team are doing a bang up job, keep up the good work!

    Strategic Account Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Detroit, MI
    Declined Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Hilti North America (Detroit, MI) in August 2013.

The interview process was not as "drawn out" as some of the other people's experiences on glassdoor, but Hilti USA does not communicate clearly through this process. For instance, I spoke with a recruiter twice over the phone, a regional manager from a "neighboring" territory, and then interviewed with two other manager in Detroit, MI. Through this whole process, I found that no one communicated my salary requirements; this was evident by the two regional managers (who interviewed me) shocked facial expressions. Overall, I was offered the position, but I turned it down.

    Interview Questions

    • The interview started by describing my childhood and where I grew up. The discussion was "detailed" and lasted almost an hour. I have never had an interview focus on what type of housing that I grew up in (a tree farm). Very strange.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

I felt that they would penalize me if I did not move all over the country to take their open positions.
