I have been working at Hobsons full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The office environment was on a downhill slide for a few years, but has been improving since mid-2016.

Friendly Co-workers as long as you yourself are even slightly friendly

If socializing with your co-workers is your thing, then you're in luck! But if you prefer not to, then that is not a problem, either.

Some teams have regular opportunities for advancement

    Cons

Product suite is good, not great.

Some poor business direction decisions have led the higher education division to change its focus, and as a result, the entire group was re-org'd a few times. Things seem to be settling down now, however.

The re-orgs do get a little old. Some teams have a lot of stability, others less so.

Some teams have little opportunity for advancement

    Advice to Management

It likely doesn't need to be said at this point, but please keep the company on a steady course as it relates to the products.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hobsons (Arlington, VA) in January 2017.

    Interview

There were two phone interviews (one phone screen with recruiter, and another with the hiring manager), coding challenge, then a face to face interview. I never made it to the face to face interview because I didn't meet their standards with the coding challenge. The recruiter and the hiring manager were very friendly, and didn't ask many technical questions.

    Interview Questions

    • The coding challenge asked me to calculate students percentile rank using a group of data. It required me to provide testing, scalability, reusability, etc. with PHP.   1 Answer
