    HomeServe Cares Foundation Announces Second Round "Caring for Community" Grant Winners

    Norwalk, Conn. (October 16, 2019) - HomeServe USA announced today the four winners of its HomeServe Cares Foundation (HSCF) Caring for Community grant program . The initiative, launched earlier this year, awards grants to non-profits and municipalities to support community-based programs. This second round of grants was awarded to four organizations across the nation that address home repairs and modifications that enable older residents to age in place safely.

What We Do

We protect homeowners from the high cost and hassle of emergency home repairs with Emergency Home Repair Service Plans that cover parts and labor to repair critical electrical, gas, heating, cooling and water systems. These affordable plans provide repair service in an emergency through our 24/7 repair hotline by local, licensed, and insured technicians with $0 deductible and a one-year guarantee on all covered repairs.

Why What We Offer Is Important

Our customer surveys have shown that the majority of homeowners are unaware of what their responsibilities are regarding the maintenance and repair of their water and sewer laterals. For example, many homeowners assume their local utility covers the water pipe that runs from the street to their home. Typically, this is not the case. If a service line breaks the homeowner is responsible for the repairs, which could range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more, and according to CNN Money, 64% of consumers do not have $1,000 on hand to cover an unexpected home repair.

    I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at HomeServe USA (Norwalk, CT) in September 2019.

    Interview

    Fairly standard phone interview with the hiring manager, and then Skype calls with key leaders in the U.K., followed by an in-person "case interview" in which I had to present detailed plans on PowerPoint slides in answer to two business cases relevant to their business.

    Interview Questions

    • "How would you grow the UK boilers market?..." along with 5 drill-down questions, each of which required research, thinking, and slide-writing in a PowerPoint presentation delivered to their senior leaders. This entire "business case" was one of two given to me in advance of my in-person visit to their Norwalk, CT offices. An absurd amount of work to request for an interview.   Answer Question
