  • What a great way to honor the hard-working men and women of our country. Well done!

    A Wisconsin trucking company thinks hard working men and women deserve some recognition. That's why Contract Transport Services , which is headquartered in Green Bay, recently wrapped a pair of new semi cabs to honor and recognize two groups of people who work to protect and enhance the lives of the general population.

  • As a company that hires and respects our Millennial, we agree that this generation has many qualities needed in supply chain management today and in the future.

    Supply chain management is a lot like life in that the only thing constant in the industry is change. New technology that is so new it crows about being disruptive, globalization, emerging markets, rising client and consumer expectations that demand the near-impossible sometimes and the near-immediate delivery of product whenever and wherever they are ordered always.

There are many STARs at Hub Group & we’d like to congratulate Emily Ferrell, Senior Account Management Specialist on winning the November STAR Award.

Thank you, Emily, for taking initiative and for providing exceptional service to your customer.

With nearly 32,000 containers traveling the roads and rails, Hub Group knew we had something unique to offer: mobile billboards.  Why not designate some of the containers to transport charitable messages?  From that simple idea, the Cause Container campaign was born in 2015. We transformed four of our 53’ containers into mobile billboards with message of hope and action for our charity partners.  For every original photo taken of a Cause Container and posted in social media with the hashtag #CauseContainer, we donated $100 to that partner.

In our first year, we raised nearly $70,000 for our charity partners.

Our current charity partners:

  • Bright Pink, which educates on breast and ovarian cancer prevention and early detection;

  • Fisher House Foundation, which provides housing to active military, veterans and their families during times of medical crisis. At Hub Group we have over 100 active military and veterans;
  • Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the top children’s hospital in Illinois and one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation;

  • The National Park Foundation, which manages and preserves our national parks;
  • Chicago Blackhawks Charities, which supports programs and institutions that impact the lives of youth and their families in and around the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois.

    I have been working at Hub Group full-time

    Pros

    Hub Group has a collection of some of the sharpest transportation minds in the industry. They continue to push the envelope in an attempt to create value in the market place. It is by no means an easy or dull place to work. While expectations are high they are achievable. You are given the space and freedom to contribute and truly make a difference in driving the company forward. If you are looking for a company that will challenge you, encourage you while demanding the best from you Hub Group is a great company to work for!

    All in all Hub Group offers a challenging yet rewarding environment for professionals who are looking to grow their transportation knowledge and experience. There are opportunities for growth and development within the organization. It’s not perfect. However if you are interested in helping the origination improve and get closer to that perfection I say…come on board!!!

    Cons

    No company is perfect and neither is Hub Group. Because hub is a behemoth with many tentacles, it can sometimes move in what feels like a disjointed misaligned fashion. While they try hard to ensure every division is moving toward the same goal, the sheer size and complexity of the organization sometimes makes that difficult to accomplish. In addition, I think the current cross training platform could use a bit of beefing up. Because we are such a large company it could be incredibly impactful and transformative to have employees thoroughly cross-trained in multiple disciplines and on the latest technologies that we are deploying throughout the enterprise.

    Application

    I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Hub Group (Oak Brook, IL) in November 2017.

    Interview

    A initial phone screening which the company is looking for a brief background of you and knowledge of the company. Next step is an in person interview with a Senior Account Manager and Director. This lasted about 40 minutes where they asked questions about my resume but also any customer service experience. Last part of the interview is a interview with one of the vice-presidents. The whole process went very smooth and everyone was very helpful and friendly.
