IA celebrated its 35th anniversary by embarking on a year-long philanthropic mission to give back to local communities. IA's '21 Rooms' project has allowed us to leverage our global reach toward improving local communities—one room at a time. Since we first opened our doors 35 years ago, our firm has been a group of like-minded individuals dedicated to impactful interiors that enhance the communities around us.     IA celebrated our 35th Anniversary by embarking on a year long philanthropic mission, 21 Rooms, to give back to our local communities.

  • IA Interior Architects is excited to announce and congratulate the winners of the 2019 Diversity in Design Scholarship. Established in coordination with the IIDA Foundation, the program is in its second year and was created as a five-year partnership to enrich and advance the interior design profession by recognizing outstanding students. “We are thrilled to have partnered with the IIDA Foundation for the second year in a row on a scholarship that promotes the power of diversity and the need to support design students across all walks of life,” said IA Co-CEOs and Presidents Tom Powers and David Bourke. “We received a number of outstanding entries from around the world, and we extend our sincerest congratulations to all of the winners. We can’t wait to see the impact these young professionals will have on the design profession.”

Design is our foundation. From this foundation we’re building a global practice of like-minded professionals who are passionate about design—well executed, timeless, powerful design that improves peoples’ lives.

Place gives form and life to the functions it serves; it influences perception, interaction, work, and user experience. For IA, design is the unifying discipline that connects innovation with creativity and unites diverse disciplines, technologies, and components to shape effective and forward-thinking work environments.

STRATEGIES

The workplace today is a valued asset that with the right strategic foundation can bolster staff productivity and collaboration, encourage and support a variety of work modes, enhance wellness, and much more.

For IA, the first step is to gain an in-depth understanding of the organization’s culture, its business drivers, what it does, and how its people work together. It is a deliberate approach that maps out the direction of a given initiative.

IA’s human-centered design takes a holistic approach to uniting user needs, the work environment experience, and the built environment for a better quality of life. We invite full team collaboration—client, designers, engineers, partners, and landlord. The quality of air, water, and light and the need for comfort, fitness, nourishment, occasional privacy, access to nature, and aesthetics that reflect culture—features that contribute to wellbeing—are all factors in a design customized to client goals and culture.

WELL certification focuses on the workforce and the work environment; LEED certification focuses on building systems and materials sustainability. Both certifications are measured against set standards, and IA professionals are champions of both.

EXPERIENTIAL GRAPHIC DESIGN

Experiential Graphic Design (EGD) makes graphic design an integral component of the built environment to visually express and communicate the message and brand, implement signage and wayfinding, deliver information, and create a sense of place through three-dimensional space.

To seamlessly unite the design of space and interpretative graphics, IA practitioners draw on sophisticated architectural and graphic skills, a deep understanding of how a space will be used and who will use it, and strong, clear, messaging.

DESIGN INTELLIGENCE

IA is an early adopter of the most advanced and powerful technologies available for developing our designs and for communicating our design intent to clients.

We were quick to adopt Revit and BIM and are now leveraging the next wave of software and hardware: robust virtual-reality technology capable of generating an immersive, three-dimensional depiction of space. Supplementing standard architectural renderings, plans, and materials boards, VR interface—combined with 3-D scanning of site conditions at the project’s inception—helps us create more accurate, photorealistic, and experiential representations of the space to be built, capable of conveying subtleties of finish quality and atmosphere. The technology even allows us to share proposed designs with clients and stakeholders much earlier in the development process, enabling more time for fine-tuning while also sparking more constructive discussions and quicker decision-making—all of which lead to a more resolved and informed spatial solution. These pioneering methodologies also help streamline workflow at every step, saving time and money as well as heightening ideation and communication within our design teams.

    I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at IA Interior Architects (Dallesport, WA) in January 2016.

    Everyone was very nice and welcoming. We talked over email and then met in person to go over the full job description and interview. I went to their office and sat down in a conference room. We talked and then they gave me a tour, everyone said hello during the tour.
