Mission: IEM's mission is to build a safe, secure, and resilient world.
IEM is a global security consulting firm dedicated to building a safe, secure, and resilient world. The company was founded in 1985 by Ms. Madhu Beriwal, who continues to serve as President and CEO, making IEM the largest woman- and minority-owned firm focused on emergency management and homeland security.
IEM works with government agencies and private sector organizations around the world to improve protection and security for lives and infrastructure, and to help states, regions, and communities recover more quickly from disasters. We integrate science, technology, and real-world experience to provide each of our customers with solutions that work and outcomes that matter.
Since 1985, our innovative strategies, technologies, and solutions have helped more than 300 government agencies and private industry customers achieve measurable results—saving lives, reducing costs, increasing efficiencies, and improving decision making. We have worked with federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense; state and local emergency management organizations in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories; critical infrastructure including nuclear power plants, chemical plants, hospitals, mass transit agencies, ports, and others. Our international work includes projects in India, Russia, Turkey, the Ukraine, Korea, Taiwan, Haiti, and Kuwait.
We take pride in truly solving each of our customer’s problems with innovative, yet practical solutions and services. We provide solutions that work, that can be implemented easily, and that deliver outcomes that matter. We go beyond simply meeting requirements or following a pre-determined process. We solve the problem.
Our customers routinely praise us for our responsiveness. We know that in today’s environment, there is no room for unnecessary delays. We listen carefully to each customer’s needs and challenges and respond proactively to each request. In addition, we are flexible. We can change direction quickly based on a customer’s evolving needs while never losing sight of the end goal.
We view each customer as a partner, adopting your goals as our own. We work hard to develop collaborative, trusting relationships with every customer, so that together, we can achieve transformational improvements to organizations, programs, and processes.
We are an honest broker that maintains the highest ethical standards of business conduct. Each of us at IEM is committed to presenting data and results objectively and honestly so that the best decisions can be made—for our clients and ourselves. We are fair, truthful, and exercise good judgment in all of our professional and personal interactions.
A unique combination of elements makes working at IEM a great experience. IEM balances challenging projects and a high level of responsibility with a healthy respect for family and personal commitments. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality services and products as efficiently as possible in a stimulating and supportive work environment.
IEMers are hard-working professionals who take great pride in their jobs. This zest for innovation keeps us two steps ahead of our clients’ needs and the competition. We know the meaning of hard work and commitment, and afterwards, we all share the credit of a job well-done. If you are an innovative professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, surrounded by equally determined teammates, IEM may be just the place for you.
Much of the work at IEM is accomplished by interdisciplinary teams working on specific projects. A project team might include a project manager, a task lead, a researcher, a programmer, a meteorologist, a testing specialist, a statistician, an editor, and a graphic designer. This blending of disciplines allows each team member to contribute according to his or her specialty while learning from colleagues.
IEM holds regularly scheduled performance evaluations. The first takes place six months after an employee’s start date to give the employee a feel for how things are going early enough to make any necessary adjustments. If this evaluation goes well, the employee is awarded regular full-time status. The next evaluation takes place one year after the employee’s start date and annually after that. Possible salary adjustments are considered at every annual performance evaluation.
IEM encourages internal advancement for employees. Seniority is not necessarily a factor in promotions—the ability to perform the required duties well is the main consideration.
IEM’s variable work schedule policy gives employees and their managers flexibility in scheduling work hours to meet business needs. Certain positions may have less flexible hours.
If you are passionate about making the world more secure and are ready for a career that is both challenging and rewarding, consider IEM.

Senior Management great people. Great teamwork amongst different staff
Pay is lower than the equivalent GS rates.
I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at IEM (Baton Rouge, LA) in May 2008.
The interview process was very thorough. Part of the screening process requires the candidate to answer in writing some very tough questions. During the process, the candidate is also required to meet with multiple employees of the company. The questions are not easy. They really want to determine if the candidate is intelligent.
