Every month "We Are INTTRA" showcases the diverse group of people who make us great. This month the Spotlight is on Sam Strum in our New Jersey office.
As Director – Data Management Services I lead a team responsible for enabling reporting and analytics on INTTRA’s data. My team works in lockstep with the Commercial Reporting team. We perform services for both the Marketplace and Data businesses and other areas such as Service Delivery, Finance, Marketing and Product Management. Our scope of responsibility includes essentially everything relating to data: from creating optimized designs, to integration, to ad-hoc reporting to Business Intelligence architecture and administration. Some major accomplishments include spearheading a Track and Trace quality initiative that improved industry quality over 13% and enabling the sales of key external dashboards.
I have worked in Information Technology groups focusing on data for several companies (e.g. Polo Ralph Lauren, AT&T, Merck, Wyndham) for 25 years. Being in many different industries has allowed me to have a broad perspective in solving and implementing data-based solutions. INTTRA, being a smaller company in a nice niche of e-commerce for shipping, has been a great place for me to use my skills and have an impact in everything data related.
When I am not working I spend most of my time being a dad and husband. I have coached my three kids in every sport since they were old enough to play. Currently I am coaching multiple basketball teams and I am on the local softball and basketball boards. The rest of my time is for fun! This is mostly related to playing sports. I particularly enjoy playing Dodgeball with my INTTRA colleagues, which started from an idea I brought to INTTRA a few years back. Finally, I have been playing bass, guitar and piano since I can remember and play in multiple bands and I am looking forward to having my bigger band play a future INTTRA event as I thoroughly enjoyed entertaining at the NJ INTTRA Holiday party this year.

Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something . . .
INTTRA employees support our community through a number of local organizations like DYFUS, Toys for Tots, and CAFS (Children’s Aid and Family Services) to name a few. In addition to these fund raising activities – we sponsor 2 “DAYS of SERVICE”. All INTTRA employees are eligible to use 2 work days to give back to our community. Each year we plan 4 independent group projects that every employee can choose to participate in, and every INTTRA employee is able to take another day to serve a charitable organization of their choosing.

There is a disconnect at the top level and many times directions come from different leaders and they are not all on the same page.
I applied online. I interviewed at INTTRA.
Applied online, received an inquiry to set up an interview shortly after. Interviewed on site. Very friendly staff, met with two separate interviewers. Interview was laid back, asked normal questions.
