Ike – Why Work With Us?

Ike is building technology to automate the safe and reliable highway transportation of freight. Automation is going to matter to everyone and we have a responsibility to make sure it is well designed, carefully tested, and makes people’s lives better. We take that responsibility very seriously and are building trucking technology with people in mind from the start.

We envision a world where automated trucks powered by Ike’s technology will focus on highway driving. We know driving a truck is a tough job, and that truckers do so much more than sit in the cab and steer a wheel. That’s why the more complex and high value leg of the journey to and from the highway will need drivers in manually driven trucks.

We care about safer roads, high-skilled jobs for high-skilled people, massively increasing the efficiency in our freight transportation system, and better connecting our American cities and towns. Trucking is the industry that connects all of us and our mission is to realize a future where trucks will be safer, truckers more valued, and trucking more productive.

I have been working at Ike full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Exciting to be part of a company where we're doing something that hasn't been done before. Lots of interesting engineering problems, really smart people, transparent culture. Culture of learning.
    - Everyone has a voice. People are open to helping and answering questions, even if they're not on your direct team. I've learned a lot already since being here.
    - Great place for people who have families, not at all the typical startup culture around working until you burn out. While people work hard, there's a lot of trust and understanding around flexible schedules. The benefits are good and the team continues to improve them.
    - Leadership is humble and open to feedback

    Cons

    - Wish the founders would invest more in our external brand, they seem really protective of it. Most people I talk to haven't heard of us.
    - Long game development isn't for everyone

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Ike in October 2019.

    Interview

I had an amazing experience interviewing with Ike. I really enjoyed meeting members of the team - everyone was very kind and treated me with a lot of respect. I was very impressed by Ike's focus on making sure that each candidate has a fair interview process and that any accommodations are made for someone to interview to the best of their ability. Outside of Ike, I've only seen this at large, public tech companies.

I had an introductory call with someone from the recruiting team, followed by a phone screen, and then an onsite. I also talked with the CTO as the final step in the process.
