I have been working at Imagine Schools full-time (More than 8 years)
Love the autonomy for teachers and the power we have to make decisions for our students and our campus. Our campus offers students leadership opportunities while developing character and academics.
Teachers often work late hours to run programs for students, create curriculum maps, work on a task force for marketing, hiring..etc. Charter schools run independent of a district, so there is no one else at the district level that does things for you. However, this could also be looked at as a good thing if you enjoy having that much power over decisions on your campus.
Advice to Management
We need to hire full time school psychologists and counselors to help our students with special needs as well as be able to talk to students that are going through trauma. I think this is the one area that we are not well equipped for.
I was asked about ten questions during a thirty minute interview. I also was assessed during actual teaching time as a substitute teacher. After that, I had about two more conversations with my employer and was granted the job.
