I have been working at Indianapolis Public Library (More than 3 years)
Highly qualified and dedicated professionals. Institution and its leaders are respected in the community. They're trying hard to prepare the library to meet the changing needs of the public.
A fair amount of resistance to institutional change and professional development. Organizational silos hamper collaboration. Lack of open communication contributes to an "us versus them" relationship between senior management and the rest of the organization. Centralized control.
Advice to Management
Encourage risk-taking and reward innovation. Create and participate in formal and informal channels of communication with employees.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Indianapolis Public Library (Indianapolis, IN).
All applications are online. Not really clear on what process the application goes through before you are interviewed. Some jobs are fast track, some languish for a long time before being filled. It's never clear who to call to find out status.
