Indigo – Why Work For Us?

Our teams exemplify a spirit of collaboration.

We are a group of people who are dedicated to Indigo’s mission of harnessing nature to help farmers sustainably feed the planet. We approach problems with optimism and a beginner’s mindset, and believe in a solution-oriented approach to innovation.

Those with flexibility, high energy, and lots of motivation are sure to succeed at Indigo. We are clear about available growth opportunities and completely open to employee ideas that can elevate our mission to the next level. To date, even intern proposals have been so well received that there are now entire departments dedicated to such projects.

Alongside growers and buyers, we are building a system responsive to demands for high quality and sustainably produced food and fiber. Indigo develops microbial and digital technologies that improve grower profitability, environmental sustainability, and consumer health. These technologies underpin its pioneering business model, which spans agriculture’s full value chain.

We want to create a world where...

1) Farms are profitable and appeal to a new generation of growers.

2) Consumers have access to healthy food and know its origin.

3) Clean air and water are preserved for future generations.

A big part of Indigo’s Core Values is to ensure that Indigo is a healthy and motivating place to work.

At Indigo, team members are encouraged to take part in every aspect of the work that the company is completing. Many folks work cross-departmentally with their colleagues to absorb as much knowledge as possible about the different areas of expertise, and everyone feels free to approach any level of leadership with new ideas and suggestions—or when help and support are required.

Everyone at Indigo is working to create a healthier planet, and that initiative begins right inside the office. We cater a nutritious lunch three times a week, offer gym membership incentives, encourage employees to bike to work, and supply stand-up desks. On top of that, team-wide events are always active, encouraging Indigo employees to get on their feet.

We will always strive to do the right thing.

We believe that the plant microbiome can fundamentally change agriculture for the better, and we are motivated to maximize that potential.

We are intensely focused on meeting the needs of four groups of stakeholders: growers, consumers, the environment, and shareholders.

We are committed to:

  • Helping growers improve their profitability
  • Improving the healthfulness of the food available to consumers
  • Protecting the environment by introducing new products that improve sustainability
  • Providing our shareholders with an above average return

When conflicts between our commitments to these stakeholders arise, we will work to find creative solutions that meet the needs of all four.

We are a science-based organization focused on innovations derived from nature.  Identifying the microbes that are most beneficial to crops and applying them in the optimal way requires a deep understanding of science, and a tremendous investment in research and development.

undefinedWe are committed to being a motivating and healthy place to work.

To this end, we will:

  • Clearly communicate the company priorities, link each employee’s efforts to the company’s success, and recognize and reward success
  • Create an inspiring and collegial work environment where everyone feels connected to one another, collaborates well across functions, and has opportunities to learn and grow
  • Empower employees to be innovative, creative, and to set and achieve big goals
  • Support the health and wellness of our employees

We will interact with others with transparency, respect, honesty and integrity. We apply this principle to employees, partners, investors, regulators, growers and consumers. This behavior builds loyalty, garners trust, and establishes an impeccable reputation, and it’s just the right thing to do.

We aren’t perfect and will inevitably fall short of these values on occasion. When that happens, we will acknowledge our mistakes and learn from our experiences so we can do better in the future.

If what we believe about the potential of the plant microbiome is true, then we have an extraordinary opportunity here. We have an opportunity to work with farmers to change the world for the better, to fundamentally improve agriculture, and to create tremendous value in the process.

Because of the size of the opportunity before us, the single most important strategic decision we can make is around people. Our ability to lead in this area will be determined primarily by our ability to hire the very best people, to get everyone aligned on a common set of goals, and to create a culture of high energy innovation and collaboration.

If you are extraordinary in your field, and Indigo’s mission and culture are something you want to be a part of, join us at http://careers.indigoag.com/

I have been working at Indigo full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is by far one of the BEST organizations I've worked at in my career. I have worked in many organizations over the past 20+ years. I have seen it all (startup within large companies, Management Consulting, Blue Chip etc.) What struck me right away:
    1) Indigo goes through a very extensive interview process. They really dig deep, looking for the right person.
    2) Great culture, values, and mission - nothing beats this! Many companies say the same stuff - they just cannot live up to it (make great wallpapers)...Indigo on the other hand lives its values. It will become obvious, starting with the interview process...they take their values to heart!
    3) The people I have met in this office are "Upbeat", and have a "Positive Outlook" - something I have not seen in many places (lately)...and everyone WORKS HARD!! The open office space encourages efficiency...it took me a day or two to get used to it...and then I appreciated its value!! More companies need to do this, and eliminate waste (employee phone calls, real estate, tweeting, whatsapping etc.).
    4) If you are a "Type A" and want to "Get things done", this is the right place for you...if one is simply looking for a "JOB", and a pay check - this may not be a good place, as it is fast paced, and one that requires ability to adapt and move faster..the typical workday is evolving - new challenges, new opportunities etc.!
    5) Team members are quick to help...on-boarding was just awesome.
    6) Finally, the future of this world is in the field of agriculture...if you believe this, join, if you don't - seek employment elsewhere...

    Cons

    Still looking for cons...still looking....

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you've been doing! The secret sauce seems to be working well...

    Interview

Interview process was intense on all levels. But I believe that it prepared me for what was to come in the coming weeks. Fast paced but filled with the information you need to suceed with Indigo on a high level. There are amazing and brillant people all around you from all different backgrounds. This made it super interesting to get to know more about what people are working towards and there common goals.

Overall Exeprience was tough but great!
