Investor Management Services (IMS) is the leading investor management platform. The web-based IMS Platform provides automated Waterfall Distribution Processing, Investor Dashboards, CRM, Document Sharing, and Analytics. Founded by Rob Finlay in collaboration with growth equity investor, Summit Partners, Investor Management Services was created in response to an obvious void that was causing inefficiencies for private equity real estate firms.
In 2000, Rob Finlay recognized the complications associated with defeasance contingencies in CMBS loans and successfully completed the first defeasance in the United States, then Canada. Commercial Defeasance established and led the industry; and continue to do so to this day.
15 years and thousands of transactions later, a very powerful and painful trend was identified with commercial real estate sponsors and owners – they were spending far more time than they wanted on non-core activities, such as distribution calculations, cash and document management, and investor relations and communications.
Out of that identified need, IMS was built to free up valuable time and resources for real estate investment firms to focus on their core objective. Over time, our clients have been able to reallocate thousands of hours to activities that drive value and their investors have been delighted by the personalized dashboard and document delivery system.

Today marks my one year anniversary at IMS – prompting great pride as I look back to reflect on the past year. I’m most proud of our team - the passion and belief in our vision to create something lasting is inspiring. Like you today, I had options about where I wanted to work. I was seeking a company with a purpose, a clear vision I could feel passionate pursuing. Second, I was seeking an early-stage company that offered opportunity for impact (I didn’t want to feel like a number). Third, I sought a company building something that mattered, something that could make a difference in the market (I didn’t need to change the world, but another mobile toaster app was not inspiring).
I found all three ‘personal pursuits’ in IMS and realized this could be a once-in-a-career opportunity. Our vision is noble – we’re disrupting a FinTech market that has resisted technology for 30 years, at the detriment of investor transparency. IMS will remove the black box to enable the next-generation investor with software, mobile, and analytics. The opportunity to make an impact is high within an early-stage startup. Radical Transparency is a Core Value at IMS – this allows every employee full access to the decisions, outcomes, and expectations of building value. We’ve seen it time and again: high potential employees accelerating their career trajectory when the lid is lifted on their potential. Third, I realized how much trust our clients are placing on IMS. This is a great responsibility as the only thing between our client and their investor is IMS. We are mission-critical, and that was a worthy pursuit to build something of significance in the world.
It is an incredible honor for me to lead and serve the team at IMS and our customers. We have a phenomenal board of directors and a group of dedicated investors who have allowed IMS to build the right way… no short cuts taken and built to last. Built to lead. And I couldn’t be more excited about the strategic plan we have created with the guidance of our board.
Our team celebrates the great early achievements at IMS; however, we are more excited about the future, the potential to go further. Next generation tech startups will disrupt the FinTech industry, and IMS has the advantage of being a first mover into our space. IMS harnesses the power of a world-class team, a solid strategy, and a technology platform that is proven to transform how business is done.
With hyper-growth (we’ve tripled in size each of our first two years) we will continue to grow our team. We will follow our Core Values to ensure our culture remains vibrant and growth-oriented as we add new members to our team. Due to the growth demands of IMS you are going to be expected to perform sooner rather than later. How prepared you are for that is up to you.

IMS uses a psychology profiling online tool to measure your IQ, stress tolerance, problem solving, etc They filter candidates on criteria they seek in the role. Mentioned strongest candidates have off the chart intellect and problem solving skills.
