Your experience will depend on which school you work at and who the principal is. Overall, my experience was good. I was lucky to have great principals to work with who valued my professional opinion and did their best to provide me with the resources I needed to help students succeed.
Work load can be a bit overwhelming and curriculum models can change from year to year so the training you receive this year may not be relevant for the following year.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Irving Independent School District.
I interviewed with the Assistant Principal at that time, Mr. James Peugh. The school had already interviewed me by phone and contacted my references, so the interview may have been more of a formality. He was really friendly. The meeting was less of an interview and more of a "here's how your first year of teaching will go" sort of conversation. I did a lot more listening than I did talking.
There really was no negotiation for this position.
