JCB Partners has a great balance between treating clients and employees with the care you would see at a small company while working on similar projects of the top consulting firms. The management is genuine and is concerned with your personal goals and how they can be achieved while working at JCB. Also, a great deal of responsibility is placed on the consultants. This means you could work on all project phases and will not be pigeonholed into one task. Because of this you are able to gain a great deal of experience in a small amount of time. Also, there are very talented and motivated individuals that are also fun to be around outside the office - just good people in general. Another positive is there is a great deal of focus on providing work/life balance. (you may typically work 40-50 hr weeks) Sometimes you may need to go above an beyond on hours if a project goes down to the wire, but that is the nature of consulting. Finding a work/life balance like this is hard to find at any of the larger consulting firms.
The drawback to providing that much responsibility on consultants is one bad egg is given the opportunity to make everyone look bad. Fortunately, the team is full of a lot of multi-talented individuals that do well in this environment. Hiring is a bit picky as well, but it is also to ensure the employees are capable to work in this environment and fit in to the team dynamics.
Advice to Management
You have a good strategy. Keep this a great place to work and keep hiring only the motivated and genuine.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at JCB Partners in January 2008.
Employee Referral landed me with a Partner and a Managing Director. The Managing Director and a Senior Consultant had 2 rounds of phone interviews. The nature was behavioral and technical. Then i was flown down to CA for an in person interview with the Managing Director and a Principal Consultant.
