    I have been working at James Cook University full-time (More than a year)


    Highly supportive colleagues. Decent annual leave, good health and dental care.


    Only the EMG members gets bonus this year. This is total absurd.

    Poor leadership and resentful higher management. The executive level is quick to blame and slow to take responsibility for the student experience.

    There seems to be a culture of denial operating where lower level executives are to be blamed for everything despite being the lowest paid employees.

    Staffs are not paid overtime despite being paid below $2500. Hope MOM will look into this matter.

    Work with some of the most uncivilized and demanding bosses with unattainable expectations.

    Lack of humility by manager. Manager practices damaging behaviours with the express purpose of elevating herself at everybody else’s expense. No ownership of your achievements. Everything done is to support the supervisors and manager. Mistakes done by management is covered up or blame is pushed down to executive level.

    Managers and supervisors are disrespectful towards staffs. This negative attitude is funneled down from the top management.

    Poor leadership at the top management, lack of recognition, narrow minded, lack of opportunities. It's run like a family business.

    Advice to Management

    Your staffs are your biggest asset. If you don't maintain the investment in your staffs or respect them, you're not going to get any better.

    If you persist and focus and are resilient about keeping your staff happy and the morale high, you may avoid the current high staff turnover rate.

    Management should probably wake up to this and start collaborating more to fix problems instead of denying they exist.

    Please revise your pay structure. It might help to start with lowering the ridiculous amounts of money upper management are being paid and the lower level being under-paid. All your management staffs are being overpaid.

    There have been a lot of staff departures recently and overall trends in student numbers, student satisfaction and revenue are not looking good. This undoubtedly indicates a poor leadership and a failed strategy.

    Clean out the corrupted management and director levels. They can’t seem to recognize good leaders from bad ones. Hire candidates who has the leadership skills. Leaders without vision will fail. Leaders who lack vision cannot inspire teams, motivate performance, or create sustainable value. A leader’s job is to align the organization around a clear and achievable vision. This cannot occur when the blind lead the blind. JCU have lost many dedicated and talented staffs due to this reason.

    Make the decision to make JCU Singapore a renowned educational institution not merely a business…….

    I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at James Cook University (Singapore (Singapore)) in September 2016.


    Interview directly with the Dean for a part time position for JCU's Singapore campus. Very objective questions about my abilities to teach a specific topic, and less on my background etc. Setting was casual and the interviewer was very nice to speak with.
