I worked at James English School full-time (Less than a year)
Friendly students, teachers, and recepetionists
Female teachers are not treated with equal respect. Unpredictable schedule changes and long unpaid hours in a cramped office. Archaic materials with meaningless lessons to use. Implicit behavior expecting teachers to read minds. Poor training by those who have no teaching credential or qualifications. It is not about education in the English language; it is basically a social club where you should be liked by everyone. False interview promises. Last but not least, You will be warned even if only ONE person complains. It is not the Japan you would want to experience.
Advice to Management
The administration needs to recruit office managers who 1) Speak English adequately well 2)Have management skills and experiences in an educational facility, 3)Most importantly, have a balanced professional attitude.
I applied online. I interviewed at James English School.
I interviewed over Skype via a video call. It wasn't hard at all.
They hire around October to coax renewing teachers to not leave and work for a competitor.
My advice is to look elsewhere.
