KIPP LA Public Schools – Why Work For Us?

KIPP LA Schools is a non-profit organization that operates free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools. Our schools, which serve elementary and middle school students in East, Southeast and South Los Angeles, are part of the national KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) network of 209 schools in 20 states and DC. KIPP schools are dedicated to preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and in life.

KIPP LA’s mission is to teach the academic skills, foster the intellectual habits, and cultivate the character traits needed for our students to thrive in school, college, and life. Through the success of our students, the KIPP LA team and family will serve as a model of excellence and collaborate with others to raise the quality of education in Los Angeles.

KIPP LA’s schools feature a strong culture of achievement. Our curricula are designed to provide students a well-rounded education, with sufficient time dedicated to academics, the arts, enrichment, and physical education. KIPP LA’s educators are committed to continually improving their teaching skills, and to giving students the support and motivation they need to excel in school and beyond.

KIPP LA operates 14 schools and educates more than 8,300 students and alumni. Our annual consolidated operating budget is approximately $60 million. By 2020, KIPP LA will grow to 20 schools serving more than 10,000 students.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that ALL students, regardless of their zip codes or demographics, will learn and achieve if given the right opportunities and support. We are committed to educating the students who need us most and refuse to accept anything less than an excellent college-preparatory education for our students.

WHAT WE DO

KIPP LA's teachers, leaders, students, and families are all united around a single goal: college graduation. Our curricula are designed to provide students with a well-rounded education, with time dedicated to academics, the arts, enrichment, and physical education. KIPP LA’s educators are committed to continually improving their teaching skills and to giving students the support and motivation they need to make it not only to but through college.

WHY IT MATTERS

The future of our country depends upon our commitment to providing all children with access to a great education. Nationally only one in ten low-income students graduates. The data suggest the rate is even lower for students in South and East Los Angeles. KIPP LA is working to significantly increase the college-going rate in the communities we serve.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at KIPP LA Public Schools (Los Angeles, CA) in October 2017.

    Interview

I applied online through a recruitment website. 3 weeks (10 later they called to set up a phone interview. After answering questions about my background and teaching style, they listened to my questions, and the next day I received an email setting up my panel interview and mini lesson for Monday, 10/2. Those went well and I was offered the position the day after.
