    Positive Outlook

I worked at Kagan Publishing & Professional Development full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Awesome boss
    - Great hours (Half day Fridays when I was there, so you make up the four hours during Mon-Thurs)
    - Great people, everyone is friendly
    - Monthly department outing
    - A suggestion box that allows employees to make suggestions/improvement and the higher-ups actually read each of them during the company meetings.

    Cons

A little clique-ish due to the separation of the departments between the floors, but if you're willing to go out of your way to learn about other departments and people, it's fine.

    Advice to Management

Maybe make the company meetings a little shorter, they seem a bit long due to the team building activities.

    Department Assistant Interview

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Kagan Publishing & Professional Development (San Clemente, CA).

    Interview

Applied through an employee referral. Interview process was broken into three stages. This was for an entry-level position.

First stage was an informal phone screening, which was more of a personality/culture-fit verification than any pressing questions. At the conclusion of the call, set-up a time to meet with HR and CMD. This was a more traditional, formal interview which took about an hour.

Received a call to come in and do a data-entry test and last interview with the manager of the position being applied for. Testing consisted of Excel speed/accuracy and mock customer support e-mail responses. Last interview was about a little shorter than the previous interview.

Everyone in the office was very friendly and made it easy to shake the standard interview induced nerves. Whole process from application to hire date was around ten days, though from first interview to last interview was about five days.

    Interview Questions

    • Standard interview questions, "what are some ways you've innovated and produced change at your last position", "can you name some cost-saving ideas you've brought to the table", experience-verification, personality and character questions to make sure you'd fit the company culture.   Answer Question
