I have been working at Kearney & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Kearney is a medium sized company (650+ employees) with tremendous opportunity for professionals to grow. The company is focused on serving the federal government and is flexible in its solution for customers. This gives employees the opportunity to provide services that are often considered 'restrictive' by the Big 4. Unlike our Big 4 competitors, its leadership does not take orders from New York HQ and view its federal practice as a "step child." Having worked at two other Big 4 firms prior to coming to Kearney, I feel appreciated for my knowledge of federal accounting and federal IT security requirements. I feel I have greater flexibility with my career as I support both financial statement audits as well as IT engagements (SOC 1s). During the year, I also support a large agency's CFO on a consulting engagement. Overall, I feel I am fairly compensated and my contributions are recognized by leadership.

My favorite benefit at Kearney are the free tickets to sporting events - Washington Redskins, Capitals, and the Wizards. This is a huge perk to be able to take a family of 4 for FREE to a game!! I never got that at the Big 4.

    Cons

My annual salary may be lower than my peers at Big 4, but I feel the work / life balance is far greater. My time with my two kids and the flexibility offered (telework 1 day a week) is far more valuable to me. It is a fair trade off.

My health insurance premiums are higher than what I used to pay for at the Big 4. I am not certain if this is Kearney's fault of being a small firm, or, if health care premiums have increased significantly in the past 3 years. Lastly, the employer 401K match is bit meager. I would hope the company would contribute more than the current 3% limit of annual salary.

    Advice to Management

    - Improve your technology, particularly desktop support. Everyone should get VPN access so they can get to TeamMate audit software.
    - Institute 360 evaluations so leadership can see how they are doing and what needs improving before it becomes a crisis.

I applied online. I interviewed at Kearney & Company (Washington, DC) in April 2017.

    Interview

I met with 3 different hiring managers after the recruiter. Each asked me questions about my resume and then discussed their area of work. Pretty easy interview, I was qualified with prior work experience.
