Keck Medicine Celebrates National Surgical Technologists Week The third week in September recognizes surgical technologists during National Surgical Technologists Week. ​ ​If you’ve ever wondered how operating rooms seem to run like an intricate dance, the surgical technologist plays a significant part; working closely with the OR nurse to create a smooth experience for our patients and the surgeons. Surgical technologists are responsible for ensuring the instruments needed for a procedure are present and sterile. They assist the surgeon by anticipating and handing them what is needed to perform surgery, then ensure all items are accounted for after the surgery is complete. It can be fast-paced and demanding, and their attention to detail is essential to be successful in this role and maintaining patient safety. In honor of this week, Keck Medicine recognizes and celebrates all of our surgical technologists. Thank you for all that you do!
