I have been working at Kirby Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)
Family oriented, great shoreside support, great benefits, great pay, and multiple areas for advancement. They have help me in many aspects including my personal life as well as in business. I do believe that after working out kinks with different acquisitions this will be the best company in the transportation industry.
Some disorganization in the shoreside area, I personally think this comes with multiple company acquisitions (this is for the division I'm in). Complacency in the different unions, more so the one I'm in (I do believe this will get better in time).
Advice to Management
Continue using what has been proven to work in the inland division and make suttle changes, I'm sure it is easier said than done. Obtain more input from the crews about the company, and use this as an opportunity for improvement if possible.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Kirby Corporation (Channelview, TX).
the interview process was simple and casual. There is a test you must take before you interview and afterward if they like you, they will tell you to go take your Coast Guard physical. The physical is exhausting but required due to the nature of the job.
There is no negotiation as the pay is a set rate according to experience
