Mission: Advance the frontiers of understanding by developing innovative open-source software platforms and integrating them into research, processes, and products.
I have been working at Kitware full-time (More than 10 years)
Work on interesting scientific and technological problems at the intersection of academia and industry. We get to talk about our work at conferences . Flexibility in your career path if you are self motivated and can share your vision. Management who care about making Kitware a good place to work and quality of life.
The Kitware brand is not as popular as some of our open source toolkits (e.g., CMake, VTK).
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Kitware (Chapel Hill, NC) in December 2013.
The position was for a Biomedical image anaylsis software dev. I was contacted by a principle investigator/engineer type of person with deep research experience. He explained that the position involves software/algorithm development in equal parts. The screen consisted of basic questions about C++, object oriented programming and computer architectures. I was rejected perhaps on the basis of my lack of experience in general purpose software development.
