LBJ Infrastructure Group (LBJIG) was awarded a 52-year contract to design, build, operate and maintain the LBJ Express project, a $2.7 billion, 13.3-mile highway in Dallas, Texas. The corridor spans along and I-635/LBJ Freeway and is one of the most innovative, congestion-management projects in North Texas.
Construction began in 2011 and was completed in 2015, a decade ahead of schedule without the use of traditional construction methods. The goal was to replace an outdated and congested, 60-year-old infrastructure.
The new highway includes redesigned, new general highway lanes and fully-optimized frontage roads. As these were being rebuilt, six new tolled express lanes (known as the LBJ TEXpress Lanes) were added in the middle of I-635, from Luna Road to Greenville Avenue. Since completion, the LBJ Express has doubled in capacity, spanning across two municipalities in Dallas County.
At LBJ Infrastructure Group, we work to provide congestion-management solutions to North Texas drivers. With the addition of the LBJ TEXpress Lanes, we offer drivers a choice in their daily commutes. With more than 500,000 trips per day on the LBJ Express project alone, it is imperative to offer a product that enables drivers to maintain a more predictable rate of speed.
The consortium which makes up LBJ Infrastructure Group is world leaders in transportation infrastructure development. These include Cintra, Meridiam and APG. Out of these, the lead firm in the consortium is Cintra.

The North Tarrant Express Project
The North Tarrant Express, operated and maintained by NTE Mobility Partners (NTEMP), is another concession project by Cintra. LBJIG and NTEMP employees work together and share the same office in Dallas, Texas. There is also a second office for NTEMP in North Richland Hills, TX.
The $2.1 billion North Tarrant Express project, which began construction in 2010 and was completed in October 2014, also included the reconstruction of expanded frontage roads and general highway lanes, as well as the addition of bypass lanes and NTE TEXpress Lanes. This 13.5-mile corridor is located in Tarrant County and sits along I-820, SH-121/183 and I-35W. The North Tarrant Express is successfully alleviating traffic congestion along one of the busiest highway corridors in North Texas and the state, with as many as 200,000 cars traveling the stretch daily. Both the LBJ Express and North Tarrant Express projects are helping to reduce traffic congestion in North Texas.
