I applied online. I interviewed at LEI Home Enhancements (Raleigh, NC).
I applied online for a Senior Recruiter position that showed a salary range of 50k-75k. That same day I received a call inviting me for an interview. The individual who called reiterated that salary range was 50k-75k and asked if that was ok with me. I said it was a little less than my last two positions but if we could come in on the higher end I would be ok. She then sent me an email stating I would meet with the city manager.
I went for the interview and it ended up being a video conference with a person in another city who did not even have my resume. I asked if I should email to him quickly from my phone and but he said he would get it later. He said I had a "little bit of recruiting experience". I have hired over 5,000 people in my 10+ years of recruiting including senior leadership staff, and very hard to fill roles. I found his comment unnecessary and disparaging. Then he talked for a few minutes about the sales team. Then he told me the job paid $14/hr. If you're keeping score, $14 an hour is about 30k a year. That's $20,000 less than the minimum of the range I was told. But I completed the interview. On the way out I lingered and managed to talk with the actual city manager. We talked a little bit about high volume recruitment and that was about it. Then he asked me to tell him one reason that would put me above other candidates.
Later that day I got a call that they were really impressed with me and wanted me to come to training next week. Then the individual said that I would be in training with two other recruiter candidates and the city manager would make his selection after that. The training class would also include a large group of door-to-door sales reps. I've worked as a recruiter for staffing companies and internally at some very large organizations. I have never heard of any process like this. I suspected they were trying to just get people in there and have them do door-to-door sales. I could be wrong, but the salary piece was a huge red flag, and combined with the strange "three recruiters competing for one position" piece was enough for me to politely decline.
