'I have found Liberty IT extremely supportive and encouraging'

The role of senior business analyst requires a natural desire to solve problems for people. After joining Liberty IT nine months ago, Anthony Mulvany quickly settled into his role and appreciated how well it was suited to his skillset. The role, Mulvany explains, elegantly marries the use of interpersonal skills and getting involved in the tech industry.

Liberty IT – Why Work For Us?

Since 1997, Liberty IT has worked on technically complex and responsive IT solutions exclusively for our U.S. parent company, Liberty Mutual Insurance, which employs over 50,000 people worldwide and is ranked on the Fortune 100 list. We are proud to be a part of this incredibly successful and forward-thinking organisation and we actively contribute towards Liberty Mutual’s mission of “helping people live safer, more secure lives”.

Between our Headquarters in Belfast and our branch in Blanchardstown, Dublin, we currently employ almost 500 talented individuals across a wide variety of technology roles, and play a key part in Liberty Mutual’s wider IT operation which employs 5000 IT professionals worldwide. In collaboration with our global colleagues, we continuously explore new opportunities to enhance our innovative capability, ultimately striving to improve ease of access and service quality to our customers.

We have an exceptional team of employees who work hard and we owe our success to them. We don’t take their dedication lightly and in turn, we are committed to providing our people with an exciting and engaging workplace for them to have a long and fulfilling career with us. We enjoy the rewards, benefits and conditions that foster:

  • Excellent job satisfaction
  • Employee well-being
  • On-going development of technical and professional skills
  • Varied and exciting career paths and opportunities
  • A company culture that encourages camaraderie, personal growth and fun

We are proud to be an employer of choice and have received many accolades for workplace excellence. Testament to this is in recent years being ranked among the top UK and Ireland Workplaces by the Great Place to Work® Institute. In addition, we actively seek to make a difference and support our local communities, charities and schools through numerous corporate responsibility initiatives.

We work hard and have enjoyed great success and growth as a result. At a local level, heavily investing in our staff and providing access to the latest technologies is crucial in maintaining our technical excellence. Being an integral part of a global company allows us to make connections and collaborate with some of the most forward-thinking minds in the worldwide IT industry.

Established in 1997, we have grown steadily from the humble cohort of 25 we started with, to our almost 500 strong team today. Every day we are all encouraged to challenge ourselves, act with integrity, exceed expectations and most importantly – work together to be the greatest we can be.

However, we don’t take ourselves too seriously here at Liberty IT and we pride ourselves on working hard but also having a good time doing it.  At the heart of Liberty IT’s success is our people and so we make it our mission to ensure they enjoy coming to work and feel proud to be a part of our expanding team.

Well-being and work-life balance initiatives are high on our priority list.  Our people take advantage of flexible working, onsite gym (Belfast office), regular health checks and healthy breakfast mornings – to name just a few examples.

What’s more, you can ask anyone and we’ll all agree – teamwork is at the core of our workplace. Whether it be meeting project deadlines, submitting an idea to our Innovation Programme or simply deciding upon the choice of buns for a colleague’s birthday, communication and camaraderie are key.

Likewise, our social committee outings are not to be missed in either Belfast or Dublin. Events are varied in an attempt to suit all tastes and are a great way to get to know each other and foster camaraderie within our company. Recent events have included a masquerade party, exclusive use of a boat during the Tall Ships Festival, bubble soccer, pub quizzes, 3 course meals, go-karting and weekends away.

Liberty IT is a successful, exciting and expanding company that offers challenging and rewarding careers across a wide variety of IT disciplines. Our career opportunities exist in many areas including Software Engineering, Information Management, Testing, DevOps, Web Design, Business Analysis, IT Help Desk, Information Security, Infrastructure, Hosting, Process Improvement and Management.

We are an inclusive company committed to building and sustaining a talented, diverse workforce through various entry routes. We recruit both experienced employees and those starting off early in their careers such as placement students and graduates. As well as those positions advertised on our website, we have also participated in industry initiatives such as the Cloud Academy, Apprenticeship Scheme and Software Testing Academy.

Inherent in our workplace is a desire for all employees to continuously develop and grow both personally and professionally, throughout their career. This will ultimately help to fulfill your potential and achieve your career aspirations whilst ensuring we achieve our organisation’s business objectives.

If you enjoy challenges, rewards and success, the perfect opportunity may be waiting here for you. All of our current vacancies for both our Belfast and Dublin offices are advertised on the Current Vacancies section of our website.

I have been working at Liberty IT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Modern offices
    City centre location
Opportunity to travel (US, Dublin and more)
    Open and honest communication
    Great team spirit
    Perks (Healthcare, pension etc.)
    Training and conferences
    Career progression
    Flexible working hours and location
    Team building/social events

    Cons

Who wouldn't want a higher salary? Having said that my salary and package is competitive among my peers who work in the same field

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the communication.

I've worked in LIT for over a year and have developed great relationships both with employees in the US and in Belfast/Dublin. The main reason I think is due to honest, open communication and hard work. If you demonstrate competence and an ability to learn and lead you will do very well at LIT.

LIT invest a lot in training for their employees. I personally have benefited from a range of training courses that cost thousands of pounds. This shows trust and faith in employees and their ability.

I am very happy in LIT. I'm excited about what the future holds here and what the current agile transformation can add to the company.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Liberty IT (Dublin, Co. Dublin (Ireland)) in May 2016.

    Interview

I got an interview via referral, so I got a link from my pal, filled out their application online and had an interview scheduled a couple weeks later. Interview was one hour, went a bit over probably. Could have been more technical questions, but overall a good mix of questions assessing how well you work with others, leadership/customer focus, technical skills and experience, enthusiasm.
