I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Lindquist von Husen & Joyce (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2020

I got an interview from a third party. I couldn’t get the job description from the recruiter. And the firm is actually mismatch with my skill. They seem very short in staff though.

Why LvHJ? Overall experience? What did you do in your previous position?

Internship Etiquette for Your Accounting Career Congratulations, you have landed that all important career-starter: an internship at a CPA firm! Being selected over others means that the firm sees some potential in you. Now your task is to learn as much as you can in this real-time test of skills, attitude and fortitude. How can you make the most of this opportunity? Show enthusiasm for your accounting career. From an employer’s perspective, a positive attitude is one of the most important attributes a young professional can bring to the table. Yes, having great math and computer skills are important. The same can be said for dressing properly for business. However, your new accounting or tax internship is going to drop you into a professional universe that may be different from anything you have experienced to date. Don’t worry. No matter how odd things may seem at first, remember that the firm selected you for your potential, not your proven experience. on the link for the full article!

Soft skills, sometimes referred to as interpersonal communications skills, relate to how well a person interacts with others. Up to now, the majority of your professional educational efforts have probably been razor-focused on hard skill, fact-based learning. For certain, mad-fast calculator skills and the ability to craft the perfect pivot table are awesome technical feats. However, employers want more than someone who has memorized the entirety of FASB and reads IRS regulations for pleasure (BTW: Who ARE you?). Employers want a human. More specifically, a pleasant human who is both informed and works well with others. CPA firms need team players who can solve problems, resolve conflicts and be adaptable to changes. Even though soft skills are different for everyone based on our individual personalities, they can still be improved. To advance your career as a supervisor, a manager and hopefully someday a partner, these skills are essential building blocks of leadership. Check out the link for a few ideas to help you fine-tune your skills!
