    Senior SRE Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Houston, TX
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at LivaNova (Houston, TX) in November 2019.

I had two technical phone screens where we discussed my prior experience with Kubernetes and as an SRE. Following this, they requested that I prepare and present a 1-2 hour presentation demonstrating 1) setting up multiple clouds, 2) setting up a service mesh across the clouds, 3) demonstrate failover of an application spanning both clusters, 4) discuss my design decisions and considerations. Mind you, this is after we had established that they (the interviewing company) was not multi-cloud, and had not yet deployed a service mesh. I presume they had no interest in hiring me, and simply wanted free consulting services.

    Interview Questions

    • They wanted me to setup two Kubernetes clusters and a service mesh across both of them, then demonstrate fail-over of an app running across both clusters. Based on my 2 technical phone screens, they are not multi-cloud, and have not yet deployed a service mesh. Basically they wanted free consulting.   1 Answer

Company Updates

  • Great news for patients: We announced that CMS accepted the LivaNova protocol for the RECOVER clinical study (A Prospective, Multi-center, Randomized Controlled Blinded Trial Demonstrating the Safety and Effectiveness of VNS Therapy® System as Adjunctive Therapy Versus a No Stimulation Control in Subjects With Treatment-Resistant Depression). Our CEO Damien McDonald said, “Now that the RECOVER study protocol has been finalized, we are ready to activate sites that will enroll patients in this important study. Those who suffer from depression that is difficult to treat may gain access through this study to a potentially life-altering treatment option. With depression as the leading cause of disability in the U.S., Medicare coverage is vital for these patients.” Enrollment is expected to begin in late 2019 and will include up to 500 unipolar and up to 500 bipolar patients at a maximum of 100 sites in the United States.
