Interview
I showed up 15 minutes early to my interview. Dressed in a suit, college degree and military discharge papers in a briefcase. I was told to wait in a lobby area for a few minutes which turned into almost 30 minutes of waiting. I remained calm. Eventually two security managers from the casino greeted me and brought me to the back room. They sat at one side of the table while I sat at the other end. It was very similar to a police interrogation (I use to be a military cop). They asked detailed questions, which is fine as I can answer but then they started questioning and almost doubting my military experience and college, which is very disrespectful. They basically took a magnifying glass to my resume and pointed out minor details (job gaps, dates, locations, etc) When I gave them an answer ( For example-I was in college during my job gap), they reacted as if I were lying. The one woman there even went so far as to doubt my previous employment, at a different casino that we actually BOTH worked at (on different shifts), simply because she had never seen me before.(?) At first I was confused and thought, maybe this is apart of the interview, to see if you can handle pressure, but what really made me lose all interest in the job is the fact that they kept asking if I had a police record. I answered no the first time but they kept rephrasing the question as if I'm lying. I'm a man of color and I've done everything I could in life to show I'm hardworking and fully capable; college, military and clean cut. I did everything I could that day to come to that job interview correct and with good intentions. I even drove an hour to get there. So for them to treat me as if I'm a criminal shows me their mindset but also the type of people they probably deal with and hire at those jobs. I left knowing that I would never take the job, and when they called me the week after (probably after they could confirm that I wasnt lying about the background check...) I didn't answer and went and found a job that respects me as a person AND pays more.InterviewExpect the usual interview questions but they will go above and beyond to make you uncomfortable and analyze you, even doubt you, doesn't matter what credentials and awards you have.
