I have been working at Los Angeles Opera as a contractor (More than a year)

Almost everyone you work with on a regular basis is hardworking and passionate about what they do and what the company is producing. It's a lot of long hours, but that comes with creating a great product. You have to really love what you do when you work there, and it can then be very rewarding.

Some of the leadership has been there too long, and some of the new folks are all talk and I don't really know how they got their jobs. Just don't get in their way, and don't question them. It takes some "managing up" but if you can learn to work in that kind of environment, you will be fine. The place will never change, so don't even try. Oh, and the pay is terrible, but that's what you get for working at a non-profit arts organization in LA.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Give cost of living raises (or how about merit increases?). We can't all live on passion.
