I have been working at Louisville Jefferson County MSD full-time
Construction trade skill development, heavy equipment training and training provided to obtain a Commercial Drivers License. Solid hourly wages for jobs only requiring a high school diploma. Great for those who wish to have a career in construction, masonry, or plumbing as well as commercial driving heavy dump trucks. Good benefits package.
Seems to be not much advancement opportunity outside of the field you are placed within. Furthest opportunity available to achieve from someone in the field or unit employment, appears to be a supervisory role. It's a Union job, without a union contract for 3 years. Meaning no raises across the board for 3 years, and being at the complete mercy of upper management. Talks of privatization and depreciation of work force. The gap between unit employees, lower management, and upper management are unequal double and even triple for some positions.
Advice to Management
Intimidation is not a management skill. Find ways to understand or cooperate with employees and what is required to actually do the jobs they do. Show appreciation.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Louisville Jefferson County MSD in April 2011.
Arrived for interview & filled out paperwork for 1 hour, followed by 1 hour interview with HR representative and department supervisor. . Paperwork included background check, very detailed education and employment history. Bring starting and ending salary, start and end date (not month), address, phone no., supervior contact info, etc for each job since high school! Also bring address, phone, advisor contact, etc for each school.
