There are some pros to working in a nightclub: It can fit around obligations and commitments outside work. You make some great friends. Free nights out a few times a year. Great staff parties.
The management run via favouritism. IIf you're qualified for the in-house opportunity but someone they like better than you isn't, then the un-qualified person they go out drinking with most often will get it. The management will rota you hours and hours over what you initially told them you could work which creates tensions between you and your manager when you have to tell them for the 3rd time that month you can't work the hours they've given you that week. Expect them to act like everything is perfect when area managers come to see what the venue is like. Expect to be under-staffed most of the time and managers will favour the rubbish employees.
Advice to Management

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Luminar (Windsor, South East England, England (UK)) in November 2014.
Applied online which was an easy process. Quickly got a phone call with an invite for an interview (think they were desperate for staff). Interview very relaxed and informal, offered the job straight away, despite lack of experience in bar work. Had an interview with one other person which made it more relaxed, due to little time the interviewer had.
