Top CEOs: 2018 (#44)
Back in June, our President & CEO was named one of Glassdoor's Top 50 CEOs for Small and Medium Businesses for 2018. We wanted to share some of his thoughts on leadership style, what makes a strong work culture, and what he's looking forward to at MCG: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQqxI
MCG (and our parent organization, Hearst) supports our workforce with a Community Service benefit with which employees can use company time to volunteer with organizations making an impact. One such employee is Dr. Blair Washington and in the blog below, you can learn how she is using her employee benefit to make a difference. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMBcl
MCG Health, part of the Hearst Health network, helps healthcare organizations (in both the government and private sectors) implement informed care strategies that proactively and efficiently move patients toward health. MCG’s transparent assessment of the latest research and scholarly articles – along with data analysis – gives patients, providers, and payers the vetted information they need to feel confident in their care management decisions.
How do we do it? We combine gold standard content and innovative software solutions with quality analytics and benchmarking that can integrate seamlessly into virtually any EHR and case management workflow platform. Together, our products help drive effective care for 70% of commercially insured Americans, resulting in better outcomes and increased cost savings.
At MCG Health, we bottle the magic of innovation and cutting-edge talent to create clinical guideline content and software solutions that are impacting patient lives every day. We love what we do, and we have fun while we do it.
We help healthcare organizations implement informed care strategies that proactively and efficiently move patients toward health, by compiling evidence-based research annually to present the most effective courses of treatment based on available data.
Our care guidelines, delivered through our easy-to-use software solutions, enable healthcare organizations to document care decisions; efficiently develop more comprehensive, consistent, and coordinated care plans; identify gaps in care; improve quality, and enhance operational efficiency. With MCG:
Also, users can improve their workflows by accessing our care guidelines directly from the electronic health record or within a utilization management workflow via our integrations with healthcare software vendors.
I have been working at MCG Health full-time (More than 3 years)
This is a niche company in the healthcare space, but they've got extremely bright (and humble) leadership. Seriously, these executives (a quirky bunch but they do have good senses of humor about themselves) have led this company to much success and stability. I've never worked with more intelligent people, and they actually seem to care about their workforce. Seriously. That's not corporate Kool Aid, the CEO even checks in with people periodically. Decent benefits, and definitely good pay. I also appreciate the high level of flexibility and trust from my Director. But seriously, the culture is fun (not too corporate), but also humble and team-oriented. They care more about their employees and customers than destroying people's lives to make a quick buck. Quality is paramount.
I don't think this is a con, but I know many people want a big name on their resume like Facebook or Amazon - and MCG (part of the Hearst media giant) is relatively unknown in the hot tech crowd. However, you'd be making a mistake not to consider MCG - most everyone here I know seems very happy (probably because they're not treated like raw material to be used up and thrown out).
Advice to Management
Keep sailing this ship on the steady. You're doing a lot of things right. I think MCG needs to be more visible on the recruiting scene. A lot of people don't know it yet, but this is a place people should strive all their lives to work for.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MCG Health (Seattle, WA) in March 2018.
Phone interview with HR recruiter to discuss experience, role expectations, etc. Received call from department Manager within 1-2 weeks which was then followed up by face to face meeting in Seattle. Fairly typical interview process.
