Mission: We conduct projects on strategy, organization, operational efficiency and processes, risk management and control, and related technology, mainly in the financial services, energy and telecommunications industries
I worked at Management Solutions full-time
-Client Exposure: Most projects give young employees high visibility to the client at an earlier stage as compared to other firms.
-Clear promotion path: Most employees will advance through the ranks at a regular annual pace
-Good salary increases: High rate of salary and bonus increase as compared to other consulting firms.
-Quick advancement for those who demonstrate responsibility: In most cases, those employees who demonstrate competence, maturity, and focus will be given broader responsibilities at a rapid rate as compared to other firms.
-Young teammates: Most analysts up to managers are young, making Management Solutions a great place to meet and work with young and motivated professionals.
-Travel opportunities and benefits: Opportunities available to travel to Eastern/Southern US, Europe, and South America, though it is project-dependent. Travel benefits are typically better than the average consulting firm.
-Multi-Cultural: The firm is diverse with a strong Spanish influence, offering exposure to other cultures and ways of doing business
-Stepping Stone: The company offers a variety of financial services-focused management consulting projects which can help build resumes and experience for those beginning a career in business.
-Smaller Firm in US: The firm has a relatively small presence in the US, but this can be used as a benefit for those with entrepreneurial ambition.
-Projects with Impact: The firm focuses mainly on back-office functions for financial services firms, but the projects have clear outcomes and impacts on the way the client operates. There is reward in seeing your work make an actual difference rather than just being considered as advice.
-Training: Though the firm offers several courses, much of it is not well prepared and not relevant to the projects most employees are engaged in. The firm needs to offer more structured programs with clear and practical relevance to the consultants' projects.
-Project-dependent experience: Depending on the composition of each project team, the positive or negative experience of each project can vary widely.
-Narrow clientele: In the US, the firm has a very limited client base. Project subjects may vary, but they are typically limited to the same client.
-Limited US Infrastructure: Though the firm is 1400+ globally, the local US office infrastructure and support groups (HR, Legal, etc) are very limited, and employees can feel this effect.
-Low starting salary: though increases are high, the starting salary is lower than comparable consulting firms in the US.
-Spanish focus: All of the senior leadership down to supervisor level is Spanish. The culture pervades the firm even in local US offices, which can be both a benefit and a con.
Advice to Management
-Invest in your employees: Develop a solid training program that is relevant to your employees' work. Manage careers in a pro-active way rather than a reactive way. Help to lead your employees to success.
-Reward your employees: Stay competitive with comparable consulting firms in terms of base and bonus pay.
-Build local infrastructure: The growth in the US requires more office, management, and support infrastructure.
-Adapt to local market: In addition to the points above, adapt your ways of doing business and management methods (including work hours/style, communication methods, mentor programs, and local competencies) to the local US market.
I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Management Solutions (Boston, MA) in February 2017.
The interview began with a short, 20 minute test that covered basic mental math skills and ability to read graphs and charts. The remaining portion of the interview process was focused on personal details (past internships, hobbies, interest in the company etc.), information about Management Solutions and a case study answered as a group.
