Interesting content, at the intersection of marine science and policy advocacy. Individual projects in Hawaii and Alaska quite promising and some relatively good small advocacy work.

So many problems. Its founder was deposed as CEO but remains as power behind the throne with his compliant deputy officially in charge. Board has no ability or willingness to challenge the dynamic. Credible assertions of extreme sexism and chauvinism at the top levels. The organization's most attractive programs to donors get no respect by management, while abstract or impractical and grandiose visions get pushed forward to the detriment of possible attainable goals. Within the oceans space MCI/MCBI has a toxic reputation.

    Advice to Management

Board needs to either overhaul the entire organization from the top down or consider merging its best elements into a larger and better managed NGO.
