What is it like working at Mars?
At Mars, we deeply believe that everything we do can mean more. That’s why our objective is to make a difference to people and the planet through performance. We do that in line with our values that have been with us for decades; by putting our Principles in action.
And because we are a company that is about more than just profit, we look for Associates that seek to make the opportunities they get here mean more. More to themselves and their own career, and along the way, more to the people and the communities they interact with.
Contributing positively to our environment and local communities is critical to the way we do business at Mars.
Work. Realize your ambitions. And realize there’s more to being in business than just making a profit. That’s the Mars philosophy. And the opportunity we offer every one of our Associates. An opportunity to take what you do and make it mean more for you, for those around you and for the planet.
You get the tools you need to do a great job and you get to have the best possible people on your side to help you do it. And at the same time as getting to find ways to do business better today than we did it yesterday and driving a great career, you also get to build a more enlightened business and drive sustainability.
It’s about how you can grab everything that’s within your reach here and use it to pursue mutual, long-term gain. It’s about having ideas. And ideals. Being prepared to risk failure because the promise of success means we’ll all be a little better off. It’s that mix of integrity and ambition that makes Mars such a special place to work. And why working here is always about more than just a job.
Contributing positively to our environment and local communities is critical to the way we do business at Mars. We strive to make a difference beyond the workplace because we know not all learning takes place on the job and because we believe in mutuality.
If your employer offered you a chance to travel to another country to provide service work for underserved communities, would you apply?
From rehabilitating coral reefs in Indonesia, helping to improve pet shelters in Thailand, working to preserve the tiger population, and more, the Mars Ambassador Program is a unique opportunity that brings mutuality to life all over the world.
Each year, the Mars Ambassador Program receives applications from Mars Associates across the globe who are looking for a unique service opportunity. The program provides opportunities for Associates to work with key partners, while developing their skills and supporting our sustainability initiatives around the world. Learn more here.
Another important Mars mission unfolds every year: The Mars Volunteer Program (MVP). Mars Associates that participate in MVP spend time in their local communities, providing help at area schools, animal shelters and nature preserves.

Advice to Management
Think about the speed of decision making and agility in how we operate.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Mars (Franklin, TN) in December 2009.
I was approached by a headhunter for a position with Mars Petcare. I had initial discussions with the headhunter and provided detailed information about my background and experiences. He submitted me to the HR person. I then had a phone interview with the HR person. Then I had another phone interview with the hiring manager. Finally, they flew me out to TN for an in-person panel interview. It was one of the most grueling interviews I've had ever. Three different people each hour for three hours, lunch by myself, on-site, then I had to review a case study, produce a Powerpoint response to the case study in 1/2 hour, then present to everyone I met with earlier in the day. The presentation was complete, there were a few questions and that was it. I found out the next morning that they would not be pursuing me any further.
