"The company’s objective is the manufacture and distribution of food products in such a manner as to promote a mutuality of services and benefits among all stakeholders."
—FORREST E. MARS, SR., 1947
In 1911, Frank C. Mars made the first Mars candies in his Tacoma, Washington kitchen and established Mars’ roots as a confectionery company. In the 1920s, Forrest E. Mars, Sr. joined his father in business and together they launched the MILKY WAY® bar. In 1932, Forrest, Sr. moved to the United Kingdom with dreams of building a business based on the objective of a “mutuality of benefits” for all stakeholders – this vision serves as the foundation of the Mars, Incorporated we are today.
That foundation has since proven its strength, as we’ve built one of the world’s leading FMCG companies, bringing quality brands and their products to consumers around the world. We now have over 100,000 Associates operating across more than 80 countries, but no matter how much we grow, we remain a family-owned organization that values the input of every single Associate that walks through its doors.
So where do those 100,000+ Associates apply their efforts? Well, we have five business segments, each with their own family of well-loved brands, and this is what they look like:
If you love animals there’s a rewarding career for you at Mars. From our Petcare Innovation Center to our pet-friendly offices, our passion for pets runs deep. Mars Petcare has been around for over 75 years, and now includes leading global petcare brands PEDIGREE®, WHISKAS®, ROYAL CANIN® and BANFIELD®. And what’s more, innovation is very much a part of our agenda, with brands like WISDOM PANEL® giving rise to cutting edge technological solutions. Want to help us create a better world for pets? Can a sweet tooth be a professional advantage? At Mars Wrigley Confectionery - the world’s leading manufacturer of chocolate, chewing gum, mints and fruity candies - it certainly can. We employ more than 34,000 Associates across 70 countries, distributing world-famous brands including M&M’S®, SNICKERS®, TWIX®, SKITTLES® and ORBIT® to over 180 countries. Think you could help us bring people the sweet treats they love? Find out more here.
Looking for a challenge you can really get your teeth into? At Mars Food we’re dedicated to providing better food today and a better world tomorrow, and it’s no small task. Associates here use their skills and knowledge to make everyday meals tastier, healthier, easier and more responsible; and they do that through globally-loved brands like UNCLE BENS® and DOLMIO®. Want more of a flavour for life at Mars Food? Discover more here.
Mars Drinks Associates use the segment’s brands to make businesses better, providing essential products that improve working environments. They do so because they know people are the most important asset to any business, which is why brands like KLIX®, FLAVIA®, ALTERRA®, THE BRIGHT TEA CO.™ and DOVE® hot chocolate find themselves in workplaces across North America, Europe and Asia. Find out more about Mars Drinks here.
Mars Symbioscience (MSS) is the global health and life sciences segment of Mars, Incorporated. Associates here take on ambitious research projects that have real potential to change the world for the better, and their efforts have already produced innovative technologies in the areas of food, plant, biomedical and life sciences. Want to use your skills to positively impact on the health and well-being of people, pets and the planet? Learn more about Mars Symbioscience here.
Here at Mars exciting opportunities crop up everywhere you look, but what makes us distinct from other companies? No matter your geography, functional area or level, we all think and feel the same thing: Our inspiring purpose makes us proud to be part of the Mars family.
We’re proud because we have a unique way of doing business that is distinctly us. It’s so much more than just ‘Let’s put out a product’. For Mars Associates, it’s ‘Let’s put out a product in the best way - in a way we’re proud of’.
The Five Principles of Mars (Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom) are at the core of that way of working. They guide our business, and when we follow them, the results are something we can all be honored to have been a part of. Learn more about these principles here.
We’re also a business that cares deeply about sustainability. We know that to change the world tomorrow, we must understand our impact today. From our Sustainable In A Generation Plan to agricultural research, we work to identify responsible stakeholders throughout our supply chains to reduce social and environmental impact and make the world a better place - for our planet, for our communities, and for our pets.
From investing in renewable energy and speaking out about climate change to improving conditions in our supply chains, we're working to make sure that the people we rely on — including smallholder farmers and suppliers — benefit from the growth of our business.
Associates can get involved in sustainability in many ways. We host the Mars Volunteer Program (MVP) where Associates can engage with a number of causes from helping out at community schools to volunteering at animal shelters and nature preserves. We also have the Mars Ambassador Program (MAP), which enables eligible Associates to develop their skills and capabilities while building great partnerships worldwide.
Whatever your passions and ambitions, there’s plenty of freedom to pursue them at Mars.
At Mars, we’re deeply committed to our purpose of making the world a better place - for our planet, for our communities and for our pets. We pursue that purpose by leveraging values that have been part of the company’s fabric for decades - the Five Principles of Mars - putting them into action to deliver world-renowned brands and top-quality products to our customers.
And, because we are a company that cares about more than just profit, we look for Associates with a desire to go the extra mile. Development is key here - whether you’re innovating for our customers, or acquiring new skills yourself, there are always opportunities to progress and build for the future.
Crucially, all of this is achieved as part of the Mars family. Nobody is left alone, because we believe the relationships we build with the people we meet make us part of something much bigger than just a company. Bring all of these things together, and you have a career at Mars that will help you grow beyond what you can possibly imagine.
Our relationship-driven culture motivates the way we work, but its value doesn’t end there. We create friendships that extend beyond the day-to-day, supporting each other in whatever we put our minds to. One of the first things our managers tell new Mars Associates is to set aside time to speak to as many colleagues as possible. Doing so doesn’t just improve professional collaboration, it also creates mutually beneficial bonds that can positively impact our wider lives.
Want to learn a new skill? A colleague who has already mastered it can help. Keen to do some charitable work? Your fundraising team could already be sitting around you. Perhaps you just need someone to talk to about a challenge you’re facing - everyone does from time to time, and everyone here will be ready to listen.
And, if the support of a global family of Mars Associates isn’t enough, you’ll also have the freedom to call on our more furry friends - the pets behind our people. Mars offices around the world welcome visits from Associates’ Animal Kingdom companions, and they too can benefit from expert training, if only you can tear them away from saying an enthusiastic hello to your colleagues.
Graduate and Early Careers Associates at Mars enjoy a career start that you won’t find at any old company. Our Leadership Experience Programs combine a diverse range of live business opportunities with continuous learning moments personalized just to you - the individual. And why do we invest so heavily in our young talents? Because we know that one day soon, they will be the people leading our global business into an exciting and successful future.

I have been working at Mars (More than 5 years)
Tons of emphasis on training, lots of opportunity for career progression, highly engaged workforce, great benefits
Even though you are exposed to vast amounts of training, they seem reluctant to offer promotions to demonstrated leaders.
I applied online. I interviewed at Mars in October 2017.
I applied online and within a week I got a phone call setting up an interview. The recruiter then sent me a Skype link. There were two behavioral interviews back to back
