Based in Taunton, MA, the company operates in Massachusetts as United Liquors, Carolina Wine & Spirits, Classic Wine and Commonwealth Wine & Spirits, and in other New England states as Martignetti Companies of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine and Rhode Island Distributing Company through a joint venture. Vision Wine & Spirits, a wholly owned subsidiary of Martignetti Companies, sells and promotes the finest craft spirits through a nationwide network of distributors.
Martignetti Companies began as a family-owned grocery business in Boston’s North End. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Martignetti family received the first retail license for beverage alcohol in Massachusetts. Through the years, they grew their retail business to include a number of wine and spirits shops across the Boston metro area. In the 1970’s, they expanded the distribution and wholesale business, focusing on fine wines. In the ensuing years Martignetti Companies steadily grew its distribution businesses in New England through organic growth, supplier appointments and acquisitions. The portfolio has grown to encompass the broadest selection of fine wines and spirits in the marketplace, from unique artisanal producers to global leading suppliers.

- Great work to life balance
- Stable company
- some divisions you are part of a union and have a vested pension after 5 years
- Not much room for growth
- Because of the union contracts older sales reps do not lose accounts even if they aren't performing
- Hard work and growth is often not rewarded
- No cash incentives
Advice to Management
- push suppliers to compensate the saleforce with cash and trips
- without your sales force you wouldn't have the distropution chanson that you do, they should be compensated accordingly
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Martignetti (Braintree, MA) in January 2013.
The interview process took over 6 months. There were 4 interview levels. Phone screening, meeting with the potential manager, meeting with VPs, meeting with the general sales manager, finally a meeting with the suppliers and HR.
