A World Beyond Cash

Every day, everywhere, we use our technology and expertise to make payments safe, simple and smart

  • Trust: We act with integrity and respect; we encourage openness
  • Partnership: We work as one team to the benefit of all — consumers, merchants, business partners, governments and the communities we serve
  • Agility: We act with a sense of urgency and deliver value through our innovation and execution
  • Initiative: We are empowered to take bold and thoughtful action, and we hold ourselves accountable for delivering results

Innovation is at the heart of MasterCard’s nearly 50-year history. We take an innovative, value-driven approach to the solutions we create and services we offer, making transactions faster, easier, and more convenient and secure.

One of the many ways in which we innovate is through our culture and people. We hire talented, inventive employees such as those in our Labs group. We also encourage all employees to participate in efforts that cultivate innovation in local communities such as STEM programs. In addition, we showcase innovation through products such as MasterPassTM and tokenization that powers solutions like Apple PayTM to deliver value to consumers, merchants and banks alike. And, through outreach to developers and entrepreneurs, we are helping to facilitate improvements across the payments ecosystem that will generate future innovations.

By underpinning innovation in everything we do, we are transforming the way people pay and get paid, helping businesses grow, improving the shopping experience and advancing financial inclusion around the world.

Leading by example in the way we work

We believe that how we do business is as important as what we achieve. Ethics and compliance are embedded in our core values and we take a proactive approach to conducting business in an open and transparent way. We believe that diversity and innovation go hand-in-hand, and we use our technology and expertise to make payments safe, simple and smart.

Supporting philanthropy and social responsibility

We care about the communities around us and we promote environmentally sustainable business practices. Our philanthropic efforts — which range from charitable giving to employee volunteerism and support for disaster relief — positively impact the lives of people everywhere. And we foster a positive work environment that offers equal opportunities and rewards employees fairly.

Promoting financial inclusion and literacy

Millions of people around the world lack access to the most basic financial tools. They don't have secure places to save money, reliable ways to transfer it or safe ways to transport it. Through innovation and education, we’re working to ensure that all people have an opportunity to participate in the global economy. Our products and solutions, as well as our philanthropic and financial literacy programs, bring the benefit of financial services to the unbanked and underbanked. This helps individuals to build a stronger future for themselves, their families and their communities.

Driving payment innovation and insights

At MasterCard, we're passionate about innovation. We know that the benefits of electronic payments far outweigh those of cash. And we use our data and insights to analyze and anticipate trends that impact payments. From major cities to developing markets, we’re creating products and solutions that fuel economic growth, efficiency and transparency. Importantly, we’re creating better payment experiences that benefit people everywhere.

Above and Beyond Benefits

Health and retirement benefits are just one way we ensure our employees feel valued and satisfied. We also offer:

  • Family care resources

  • Adoption assistance

  • Parental leave

  • Employee and Family Resource Program

  • Financial Wellness programs

  • Personal services and discounts

Fostering Work-Life Balance

Flexible work hours

Results, not hours, count. Our workplace allows the kind of scheduling flexibility that helps balance work demands with personal responsibilities.

Matching gift and volunteer incentive programs

We encourage employees to spend time volunteering in their communities. And, eligible employees and retirees can also donate to the nonprofit groups or educational institutions of their choice, and we’ll match the donation dollar-for-dollar — up to $5,000 per year.

Learning and Career Development

The workplace as learning lab

When employees are empowered, they’re more likely to take an active role in their own development. That’s why we provide employees with opportunities to lead initiatives, work on cross-functional projects or volunteer for rotational assignments — either in their own office or in one of our other offices around the world.

The value of coaching and feedback

Our managers receive extensive training in both managerial and coaching skills. This helps ensure that all our employees get the ongoing feedback they need to make the most of their talents. We want our employees to succeed.

Financial assistance for education

MasterCard provides financial assistance to eligible employees who want to take their education and professional development to the next level.

Good place to work with interesting problems to tackle. I learned a lot about computer programming and analyzing large amounts of data that was helpful for advancing my career.

Located outside of New York City. The commute was very long and it can be slow moving at times to get simple things done. The management team can be helpful if you have the right one.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more ability to communicate with managers. Allow people to choose how to tackle problems more freely. All in all it is well run and the Chief executive officer is a very smart guy.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MasterCard in November 2015.

Fast. I had an initial phone screen. The following week I had 2 phone interviews with 2 of the Group Heads. During that week I also met face to face with one of the local Group Heads for coffee. It was a very relaxed casual meet up that eased my nerves. It was finally followed up with a phone interview with their HR Business Partner. I was offered the position shortly after.
