    Mastery Charter School - Assistant Director of 3-8 Literacy

    Position Summary: The Assistant Director of 3-8 Literacy ensures that Mastery Charter students in 3-8 produce breakthrough results in reading and writing as measured by Standardized, State and Mastery Benchmark assessments. The AD of 3-8 Humanities Support reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer Support and/or the Director of School Support and ensures that academic programming is executed at a high level throughout the network.

    Pros

    Mastery is full of passionate, intelligence, and dedicated teachers and administrates. Its value of "student achievement above all" drives all decisions. Mastery provides its teachers with a tremendous amount of support and assistance.

    The level of support and knowledge among administrators varies greatly.

    Advice to Management

    Ensure that all APIs are held to the same standards and offer the same level of support and feedback to ensure that all teachers feel supported.

    Application

    I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Mastery Charter School (Philadelphia, PA) in November 2017.

    Interview

    Very misleading. Don’t apply unless your current employer knows your looking for another job!!!

    First a ten minute phone interview then about two weeks later e-mail generated request for an in-person interview. Directions called for a demo lesson for thirty but once I arrived changed to less than ten students! First red flag. After the demo lesson was completed there was a debriefing on pros and cons on the lesson. Was told I would hear back within two weeks on if they are moving forward.

    Received an e-mail that my references were being checked then it was down hill from there. Second red flag two weeks past after my references were checked as in my current employer informed then complete silence. There is no physical person to contact and your only able to send e-mails about your questions concerning your application status!!

    A week of chain e-mailing only to find out the recruiter handling my application didn’t work there any more which was very sketchy . It is now 30 days after my interview and someone finally responded stating my information has been forwarded to two schools and a decision will be made by the end of the week not!?

    Two months later received a generic e-mail stating the position was given to someone else.

    Very confusing and misleading. I’ve never had a potential employer check my references and not offer employment.

    Keep looking don’t waste your time!!!!!!!!
