Mission: To spark meaningful relationships for every single person the world.
We've got the inside scoop on #dating apps with Mandy, CEO @ Match Group
Alina and Nathan recently attended WomenHack to share their insights on ReactJS and #lifeatMatch. We always love meeting passionate software engineers!
In April of 2015, Match turned 20 years old as one of less than a handful of tech companies born in 1995 that still leads its category. And in our category, no business comes anywhere close to us, either in customer experience, reach, or business performance. Over 50 million members use our products every month and our customers go on tens of thousands of dates every single day. Our reach and impact are staggering. We believe that no business brings more happiness to more people than ours; we can never forget the impact we have on society.
Since 2008, Match has doubled in size from essentially one brand operating in one market, to over a dozen market-leading brands with users in every country in the world. Our growth has been fueled by mega-successful acquisitions like OKCupid along with a commitment to internal innovation and investment in product development that culminated in the launch of the app phenomenon that has transformed social discovery: Tinder. Match has developed market-leading innovations in essentially every major function: business model, analytics, marketing, mobile, UX, events, and the list goes on. This list of accomplishments proves that Match has assembled the most talented & passionate team around, one that we want you to join!
Match is an operating business of IAC/InterActiveCorp (Nasdaq:IACI). In 2014, IAC was ranked number 6 by Fortune as one of the world’s most admired companies in Internet Services and Retailing. Match is headquartered in Dallas with offices in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. Match is also home to Chemistry, People Media, OkCupid and Tinder! We pride ourselves on creating a culture of innovation full of talented people all with the goal of making love happen.
Get excited by discussions about high-performance design and coding, session state management, error logging or scalability? Want to get hands-on experience with the cutting-edge Internet technologies we use to create and maintain world-class Web sites for Match? If so, you might fit right in on one of our technical teams. We look for the best technical talent on the planet in a variety of disciplines, including Application Development, User Interface Development, QA and Configuration Management, IT Operations/Networking, and Systems/Database Administration. We’ve structured our teams to maximize speed and flexibility. The environment is extremely flexible and casual. We believe in a culture of doing; we’d rather prototype, test and iterate than theorize, debate and document. We use a variety of technical tools to turn business vision into physical reality including C#/.NET, ASP.NET, Web API, React.js, Node.js, SQL Server, TFS, Selenium, and Canopy.
Mobile & Applications
The mobile team works on anything and everything. ipads, tablets, iphones, android and more. If it’s a new device, we know about it. In fact, we’re always on the market, testing out the newest and greatest mobile devices that haven’t even hit the market yet! And if that isn’t enough, if there isn’t an app, we are the ones creating the stuff that runs on mobile web! We are all about mobile, all the time.
Here are some of the qualities that define the mobile group:
Quality Assurance teams are the innovative and agile within Match. We prevent mistakes. We avoid problems. In essence, we’re the ones who are making sure that before our customers see it, we’ve tried it, used it, monitored it and done it! We’re all about high quality…all the time! Every day our QA Engineers are talking to the development teams, product teams, management and everyone else involved in the products that our customers use on a regular basis to find love!
Business Support Team
“Variety is the spice of life” – on the Business Support Team (or BeST) this is more than a trite catch phrase – it is reality. Some jobs have you performing the same task but in slightly different ways every day. On the BeST team you will never be bored (see Bret if you are, please) because we write Windows services, web applications (with MVC and webforms), console applications, API integrations with third parties, and even some Windows desktop apps.
Our team develops, manages and supports the tools that other teams in the company use to do their job. The Call centers and customer care agents can’t function without the Customer Service Application. The Events team could not coordinate their activities without the Event Management Tool. Need a new promo? We have an application for that. Need a tool to peruse creative files for your clients? We have a tool for that. Need a daily report downloaded and consumed from a third party system? We’re the team that can make that happen.
We also troubleshoot situations for the teams we support, providing assistance beyond the simple release. When issues arise, we’re first in line to assist with investigation and coordinating a solution. We’re the problem solvers. We’re the ones you want on your side: we respond.
It takes special people to join our team. We are looking for people who are interested in constantly expanding their knowledge base, learning every day, and helping others. If that sounds like the kind of work you want to do, then we’re your team.
In addition to awesome time off, we offer paid Maternity and Paternity Leave
- Maternity leave is 12 weeks paid @ 100% salary
(If you work in a state with additional time off , we have you covered!)
- Paternity leave is 2 weeks paid @ 100% salary
We have 10 holidays every year + one floating holiday to use whenever!
We have no formal dress code policy here at Match. Take your cues from your fellow co-workers and manager, but if you’re more comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, go for it.
However you commute into work, we can take the sting out of it with a subsidy and ways to purchase your mass transit or parking passes pre-tax.
Need a break? We have multiple game stations throughout the building including Ping Pong, Rock Band, Wii, Pool, Foosball and the occasional Nerf Dart War.
Employees enjoy discounted monthly dues and no enrollment fees for select fitness facilities. We also provide free weekly yoga classes in the building!
We love treats, which is why we partner with local businesses and online retailers to give employees discounts on loads of merchandise, amenities and day-to-day services you use the most. We are constantly adding to our treats which include local restaurants, on-site dry cleaning, computers, mobile phones and gift items.
Every employee is eligible for up to $5,000 worth of tuition reimbursement per year. You’re investing your time with us, and we’re proud to return the favor.
Refer a qualified candidate to us. If your referral is hired, the company will pay you a bonus for their hire! Not a bad deal for just a little contact list perusing.
Fresh fruit, cereal bar, healthy snacks dispensers, yogurt, drinks, tea and coffee (brewed by-the-cup) are always available to employees. Every Friday is bagel Friday!
We like to celebrate: product launches, summertime, or just a plain old Thursday…we constantly find reasons to get together and have fun. From happy hours and summer soirees to our annual holiday party.
I worked at Match (Less than a year)
Best in class in terms of shipping really good software fast. You'll push code every week. You'll work your butt off and learn a ton or drown. They took a chance on a Jr Dev and grew me into something in under 1 year that would have taken 2-3 years anywhere else.
It's pretty fast sink or swim. Management has changed quite a bit since the pre-IPO days. So I can't comment on current leadership since 2015. I still think the Match name/brand is pretty good environment to work in tho, all things considered relative to the area (DFW).
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Match (New York, NY) in May 2016.
Quite possibly one of the best interview experiences I've had. I met with the right people; those who I'd interact with mostly-- a variety of mid-to-senior level management individuals (including VP-level). Each and every person was transparent, relaxed/kind/welcoming, engaged in the subject matter and asked questions in a way that, ultimately, turned the interview into more of a conversation, which was brilliant.
When it came time to discuss an offer, I looked back at the people who I believe represented the personal work environment I'd ultimately be in and, having met with those specific individuals, made the decision that much easier (to accept, of course). And this was not an easy decision by any means, given that I wasn't leaving my previous company because of any extreme/particularly 'negative' experiences; Match provided me with the right opportunity, the right offer, the right people and seemed to give me the right long-term potential (relative to my professional development).
