I have been working at McCarthy Building full-time (More than 3 years)
Large, complex, challenging projects that often bring very talented people in the design, engineer, construct field together. High profile experience great for building a resume of the company doesn't work out. My experience has been a culture of driven people pushing each other to be better. Great salary and benefits.
It's usually not clear where staff go from project to project. Little time is given for families to relocate and adjust often.
Advice to Management
Keep improving the foremen and Superintendent career path. I think it will help the dilemma of quality field supervision. Building our own people including craft employees with more training will only make us stronger.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at McCarthy Building (Saint Louis, MO).
Interviewed with multiple people through multiple interview days. Was asked questions about how I manage projects, work with people and what I'd like to do next. They were focused on finding out if 1 - I could do the job, and 2 - if I fit in with the McCarthy culture. I'm glad they took the process seriously, because it was a big decision for me too.
