Phillip H McNeill, Jr

Chief Executive Officer


Phillip McNeill, Jr serves as managing partner and CEO of McNeill Hotel Company which he founded in 2014. He was formerly Executive Vice President of Equity Inns, a publicly traded (NYSE) Real Estate Investment Trust, involved in growing the company from 8 hotels valued at $40 million to a portfolio of 138 hotels which was sold to a real estate fund of Goldman Sachs for $2.2 billion. He has held senior executive positions in the hospitality group of Goldman Sachs and Pillar Hotel and Resorts. Mr. McNeill has over 30 years of experience in real estate development, management and construction across various asset classes. He recently served on the Marriott Courtyard Design and Construction Committee formed to reimage the Courtyard guestroom.


Mark Ricketts

President/ Chief Operating Officer


Mark Ricketts serves as President and COO of McNeill Hotels. Prior to joining McNeill Hotel Company, Mr. Ricketts spent the last seven years serving as Vice President in the Realty Management Division for Goldman Sachs in Irving, TX. In his capacity, Ricketts provided hotel asset management oversight for a portfolio of over 300 properties, spanning 10 brands and 27 flags. Mark has nearly 35 years of experience in the hotel industry. He previously worked as Vice President of Asset Management for Equity Inns, Inc., a publicly traded Hotel REIT based in Germantown, TN. Prior to Equity Inns, Mr. Ricketts served as the Vice President of Hotel Operations for Memphis, TN based MASTER Hospitality Services. In his role, the company received the prestigious “Partnership Circle Award” from Marriott International. Mr. Ricketts was recently named to serve on the Hilton Home 2 Suites Owner Advisory Council (OAC). In addition, Mark has served on the Hampton Brand Operations Council since 2000 and was a past member of the Hyatt Place Operations Advisory Committee. Ricketts previously served on the Board of Directors for both the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and Memphis Hotel & Lodging Association from 2000-2008.

Phillip McNeill, Jr and Mark Ricketts, the company's principals, are 2nd generation hoteliers with over 60 years of combined experience in the hotel industry, encompassing nearly every discipline of the business. We focus on select service hotels with a growth strategy based on a mix of new hotel development, meaningful acquisitions and third party management agreements. We are approved franchisees for both Marriott and Hilton.

•1984 – Phillip McNeill, Sr. began building Hampton Inns. Formed McNeill-Sullivan Hospitality Corp. with David Sullivan. Built initial hotels in Jackson, TN, Columbus, OH, Bloomington IN, Little Rock, AR and Columbus, GA. 

•1994 – Mr. McNeill formed Equity Inns, LP (ENN) which was one of the first publically traded REITs. (Real Estate Investment Trust) It started with only 8 hotels and ultimately included 130 hotels. At one time, ENN was the largest franchisee of Hampton Inns.

•2007 – An affiliate of Goldman Sachs took ENN private in a transaction valued at $2.3 Billion.

•Meanwhile, Phillip McNeill, Jr. began on the ground floor learning the industry along with Mr. McNeill, Sr. until 2007. 

•2007 – Phillip McNeill, Jr. joined Goldman Sachs and Pillar Hotel & Resorts.

•2014 – McNeill Hotel Company, LLC was found by Phillip McNeill, Jr. 

•2014 – MHC began managing its first hotel – Residence Inn, Morgantown, WV

•2015 – Mark Ricketts became a partner with the role of President and Chief Operating Officer of McNeill Hotel Company. 

•MHC currently manages 13 properties with 2 more in development.

We offer all active associates eight (8) hours of paid volunteer time off per year that may be divided over several days during the year.


We encourage team community service projects and fundraising efforts.


In 2016, team members built a house with Habitat for Humanity, made blankets for hospital patients, volunteered at soup kitchens, held can drives, donated toys, volunteered at the local Arc prom, held toiletry supply drives, served Thanksgiving meals, and much more!

    I have been working at McNeill Hotel Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1) Steady hours (little to no hours cut, even during off-season)

    2) Good company policies that don't conflict with corporate policy (the previous management company had policies that would directly conflict with Marriott/Hilton policy)

    3) Management seems to be upbeat, and it shows that they genuinely care about their properties (rather than just sitting back and collecting money).

    Cons

    While pay rates could always be better, seeing as how the properties are not directly corporate-owned, this is understandable.
