We opened our doors more than 80 years ago with the goal of helping people provide for themselves and their family. Today we’re a multi-billion dollar retailer – the nation’s 19th largest privately held company – with more than 70,000 employees across six states. Our Midwest geography includes corporate offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan, plus manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and over 200 stores across Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin.
As the pioneer of the “one-stop shopping” concept, we offer excellent customer service, low prices, quality foods and a broad selection of national and Meijer brand items. Our growth and innovation remain focused on our core values: customers, competition, freshness, family, and health and safety.
As a family-owned company, we’re grounded in the philosophy of our founder, “… take care of your customers, team members, and community … and all of those will take care of you, just like a family.”
That’s why we’re committed to the communities we serve – through support of nonprofit organizations, sponsorship of hundreds of community events, and by donating 6 percent of our net profit to charity each year.
At Meijer, we believe in doing great work in our stores, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities and corporate offices, while always taking care of what’s truly important – family. Because for more than 80 years, that’s just the right way of doing things.
Meijer first opened during the Great Depression when Hendrik Meijer, and his 14-year-old son, Fred, fulfilled a need in the community. With a focus on customer experience and respect for team members, they evolved the small grocery store into a one-stop shopping experience – the nation’s first supercenter.
Today, brothers and co-chairmen Hank Meijer and Doug Meijer lead the privately-held company, along with a handful of experienced business leaders, including Co-CEO and Vice Chairman Mark Murray and President Rick Keyes.
Why not? Meijer is focused on hiring and developing people who want to be the best. The entrepreneurial spirit that evolved Meijer into the first supercenter is present in all of us, and challenges us to raise the standard. That competitive edge pushes us to exceed the expectations of our customers, while building working relationships that can last a lifetime.
Meijer brings you an opportunity for great personal and professional growth. Training and development, hands on experience and the guidance of our leaders will position you for success, all while delivering value to our customers and keeping positive things happening.

Our Core Values
Fred Meijer always said, “Customers don’t need us, we need them.” At Meijer, we focus on our customers and thrive by meeting their needs and exceeding their expectations.
Retailing is a fast-paced business that demands continuous improvement. Meijer is committed to keeping our competitive spirit strong and staying nimble and flexible to win in the marketplace.
Meijer is a family business. We believe in treating each other with dignity and respect. We are committed to strengthening the communities we serve.
Meijer is known for freshness. A focus on fresh food, thinking and innovation makes us better at serving our customers.
safety & health:
Meijer provides a safe and healthy environment for our team members. We create a safe shopping experience for our customers and offer products and services to help our customers lead healthier lives.
Our number one priority is to serve customers. Meijer exists because customers vote with their dollars. So we always want to listen to them, anticipate their needs, and put them first in every decision.
The number one way we can take care of customers is by winning with our team. Every team member in the company plays an important role in delivering a great customer experience.
Meijer is a company where we can take pride in what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. We not only compete; we make our communities a better place to work, live and play.
Diversity & Inclusion
Together we will build a family of diverse and inclusive team members that reflect our customers, impact our communities and achieve superior performance.
Meijer is a family-owned company serving the needs of families at each of our stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
With the help from our Team Members and customers, we’re able to make the community a better place to live, work and play.
As we grow, we follow a simple philosophy established by our grandfather and father 80 years ago: “take care of your customers, team members and community … and all of them will take care of you, just like a family.”

This year Meijer continues its annual holiday tradition with the Shop with a Hero program. More than 100 participating stores will pair underprivileged children with local area heroes to shop for holiday gifts for themselves and family.
More than 3,500 children will shop with local police officers, firefighters and veterans. Participants are also treated to pizza parties, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus or food baskets.
Meijer donated over $200,000 in gift cards to the program, making the holiday season a little brighter for children and families across the region.
Meijer partnered with Make-A-Wish® Michigan on Giving Tuesday to donate 10 toy baskets to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The surprise gift baskets were themed by toy brand including Nerf, Star Wars, Hot Wheels, Lego, Barbie and Disney Princess. Representatives from Meijer and Make-A-Wish® hand delivered four of the 10 baskets to wish kids in Detroit and Roseville. Gift cards were also donated to the children’s parents.
Meijer has proudly supported Make-A-Wish® Michigan for 25 years and looks forward to continuing the tradition for many more years to come.

Advice to Management
I loved this job so much management was amazing they actually care about the employees
I applied online. I interviewed at Meijer.
There is a two part interview process. First, your team lead (a manager of the department you applied for) will interview you. It's very casual and they ask personal questions and about past experience. Then, if they are satisfied with your answers, they'll move you on to the line leader, who is the head of the department. They essentially ask the same things. Nerves shouldn't get you. It's not a life or death interview unless you make it one.
